I HAVE A SPONSORED ADOPTION - $0 TO ADOPT ME!

Dr. Dennis Boelter owned Akron (Ohio) Animal Clinic and Metropolitan Veterinary Hospital (Akron, Ohio) for 43 years. A tragic accident took Dr. Boelter’s life in December of 2017.  As a tribute to Dr. Boelter, a very special Canine Castaways supporter will pay the adoption fee for this dog's adoption..   For more information on "Boelter's Bunch", please visit http://www.caninecastaways.org/special-adoption-programs

Please consider opening your heart and home to a senior dog!

NOTES FROM FOSTER FAMILY:

Meet Remi — Your Loyal Shadow

About Remi:

*Remi is a gentle, affectionate dog with a big heart and an even bigger desire to be close to his person. His favorite place in the world is simply wherever you are.

Personality & Behavior:

***Great with cats! Remi is patient and respectful — even with shy or fearful cats. He gives them space and never takes offense at a hiss or swat.
***Easygoing with sharing. While he likes to keep his crate to himself (he’ll guard it from cats but not people), he doesn’t guard food bowls once he’s mostly done, and he’s perfectly fine if you need to take bones or high-value treats from him.
***Loves his people. Remi experiences some leave-alone distress, but he doesn’t bark or destroy things. He just quietly paces and searches for his person until they return.
***Not an outdoorsy guy. He’s happiest indoors, close to his favorite humans.
***Remi will need a fenced in yard.  He doesn't understand going potty on a leash at this time.

In short, Remi is a tender, loyal companion who simply wants to be by your side. If you’re looking for a gentle, devoted friend who will love you endlessly, Remi is ready to be your shadow and your sweetheart.

Additional adoption info

Adopting a pet is a lifetime commitment and is a responsibility that should be taken very seriously. Our dogs may have been lost, abandoned, abused or surrendered by a previous family and may require time to adjust to a new home. Many times there will be more than one application for a dog but we strive to match each dog with the most appropriate family. At this time, adoptions are limited to within the state of Florida.

Our goal is to place healthy, well-adjusted dogs. All of our dogs are vet checked including spayed or neutered; heartworm tested (placed on preventative if negative and treatment started if positive); up to date on vaccinations; bloodwork; urinalysis; dewormed and provided with any other medical care necessary. Our dogs are also microchipped for permanent identification. Our adoption donation, which is normally $300.00 for adults and $400.00 for puppies, is to help offset these veterinary expenses. Our adoption contract allows for a dog to be returned within 7 calendar days for a full refund; otherwise, all donations are non-refundable after that time. If for any reason you decide you no longer can keep your adopted dog, the dog MUST be returned to Canine Castaways.

More about this rescue

Canine Castaways, Inc. is a non-profit, all volunteer organization dedicated to rescuing dogs in need, rehabilitating if necessary, and then adopting to approved homes where they will be loved as part of a family while also encouraging responsible pet care and striving to increase awareness of the consequences of pet overpopulation through educational programs and materials. We do not operate from a shelter but rather a network of foster homes in different areas of the state so it may not always be possible for you to meet more than one of our dogs at a time. While this can be frustrating for a prospective adopter, the foster home setting allows us to better evaluate the dogs' temperaments and help them adjust to family life. We deal primarily with dogs under 30 pounds but will also take in larger dogs if a foster home is available.
