My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Dragon Fruit is a 5-year-old gal who was left behind for over a week with her 9-year-old companion Cantaloupe before coming to our care center. Understandably, Dragon Fruit was not a happy camper when she arrived. In those first days, she was deeply conflicted-hissing and swatting one moment, then blinking profusely at gentle words, rolling on her kennel floor, and calling for petting the next. Her confusion and hurt were heartbreaking to witness.
But just a few days later, Dragon Fruit began singing a different tune. She started welcoming visitors with vigorous head-bunting, loud purring, and leaning all the way down to her kennel floor9see her video). She even began making biscuits! It's as if she's trying to catch up on all the closeness and affection she lost when her former owner and dear friend Cantaloupe disappeared from her life. She hasn't looked back to those difficult first days, and we're thrilled with her positive transformation. Dragon Fruit needs a low-traffic home without small children and a patient, understanding owner who will give her the time to fully heal and trust. With the right person, this sweet girl might become the loving, devoted companion we all want in our homes.

Another Volunteer writes: I gave Dragon Fruit a neck massage and she was just frozen in pure bliss. She was so unbelievably cuddly and wonderful that I came in an extra day just to see her again. When I was back in again, she was such a delight.

What my friends at ACC say about me:

I'm sensitive and shy. I'll need extra help from you.

I will flourish in a calm environment and a low-traffic home.

Dragon Fruit tolerates attention and petting but appears fearful or stressed in the shelter. She may be a little more independent and may need time to warm up to her new home. We recommend this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents. Due to the behavior shown, she may not be a great fit for young children. Any home with older children prepared to adopt this cat should conduct a thorough interaction and endeavor to monitor this cat around their children to prevent these behaviors from being reinforced.
