My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Rusty!

Please read the bio in full for answers to your questions. In the event you have a question that is not covered in the bio, please email info@seniordoghaven.org. If interested in adopting, please complete an adoption application which can be found at https://seniordoghaven.org/adoption-process/.

Please note that because all our dogs live in foster homes, we are unable to set up meetings with a dog unless we have a completed adoption application on file. Adoptions must be within a reasonable distance from Landenberg, PA for our volunteers to be able to conduct an in-person home visit.

Rusty is an absolutely adorable 8–10 year old Pomeranian weighing in at a tiny 6.5 lbs. This little fluff is as sweet as can be and has been a joy since the day he came to us from the shelter.

Rusty is a gentle, quiet companion who enjoys a calm home and a comfortable spot to nap. He’s an independent little guy who doesn’t need to be in your lap at all times, but he definitely loves the option — especially during cozy downtime. Rusty is good with dogs, cats, and respectful children. Because he startles when woken up, we think a home with children who understand gentle interactions would be ideal.

He’s still working on his housebreaking and currently uses belly bands while he gets the hang of things, but he’s making progress. Rusty is crate trained, does well on a leash, and sleeps happily in either a dog bed or an open crate. He can handle a few stairs, but due to his tiny size, a home with minimal steps (or someone willing to give him a little lift) would be perfect.

Rusty recently received a dental cleaning, neuter, and treatment for a mild ear infection, so he’s feeling fresh and ready for his forever family! He does not require any ongoing medications or a special diet.

Rusty’s Perfect Home:
A loving, gentle household that can provide a safe, cozy environment and help him continue with his housebreaking routine. A yard is not required, and he does well on walks. His new family should understand that this sweet boy may startle if woken suddenly, so soft approaches are best.

Likes:
• Napping in soft places
• Quiet companionship
• A warm lap when the mood strikes
Dislikes:
• Being startled awake (don’t we all?)

If you're looking for a small, sweet, easygoing companion who will quietly fill your home with warmth, Rusty may be the one for you. He’s ready to give his heart to a family who will love him just as he is.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

The goal of Senior Dog Haven & Hospice is to find the best home possible for our senior dogs.  To assist us in this endeavor, SDH&H requires a fully completed application, references, and a visit to your home by one of our trained volunteers.  For this reason we only process applications within a reasonable commute from the dog's foster home.

Our adoption fee is $200, however we offer a discounted rate of $150 for senior adopters over the age of 65.

More about this rescue

We are a small, dedicated group of fosters and volunteers. We strive to improve the lives of senior dogs who find themselves without a family to care for them anymore. We do not have a facility. Our dogs live in our homes as members of our families. We provide care, comfort, companionship and, most of all, unconditional love. We have worked in senior rescue for years, and see the continuing and growing need to get them out of shelters where they are often euthanized because of their age and/or medical reasons, or from owners that find themselves in crisis and no longer able to care for their companions (nursing home, illness, abusive situations, etc).

Senior Dog Haven and Hospice is a registered 501(c)3. All donations to our rescue are tax deductible to the fullest extent of the law.
