Meet Glowbell, a petite little lady with a heart full of sweetness. She can be shy at first, but once she feels comfortable, her friendly wiggles start to shine. She loves to romp around and play with stuffies. It’s so cute! She will play on her own then bring the toys to show you. Glowbell has a gentle soul and so much love to give.
Glowbell is super affectionate and loves to lay in your lap. She’s a medium sized girl at 43 pounds (but could stand to gain a few more). She enjoys belly rubs, face pets and butt scratches! Glowbell knows “sit,” and walks nicely on the leash. She may pull when curious, but she responds well to gentle guidance and shows improvement with consistency. She’s food motivated and eager to learn and please.
Glowbell spent some time in a temporary foster home, and showed what a wonderful companion she can be. She proved to be house trained and gave clear signals when she needed to go out. She worked on crate training and understands the “crate” cue. While she’s still getting comfortable with it, she did fine when left alone outside of the crate—howling briefly at first but settling in nicely without getting into any trouble. She kept herself busy appropriately with her toys.
Glowbell is friendly and social with people, doing well around women, men, and kids during her interactions. She has interacted gently with kids as young as 3 years old. She knows several commands, including “sit,” “down,” and “come,” and enjoys learning and engaging with her people. She loves toys and is great at entertaining herself, but she’s equally happy snuggling up and staying close to her humans. Glowbell spent time relaxing, running and playing in the snow, and curling up for movie time by the Christmas tree—she settled in beautifully and made herself right at home. She’s a fun, affectionate, and well-rounded girl who is sure to make a loving addition to her future home.
Glowbell has a nice balance of energy—playful and fun, but not overly jumpy—and she adjusts well to her person’s schedule. She’s also extremely affectionate, loving butt scratches, belly rubs, and face pets. Her tail wags nonstop when she feels loved. She has done well on outings and adoption events. She even enjoyed a trip to Petco, where she marched straight up to the stuffed animals, carefully picked out her favorite, and carried it all the way home.
Glowbell has met other dogs at the shelter, she is a gentle girl and will need to meet any doggie room

Step 2: Visit our shelter during adoption hours (Monday-Friday 2-6 p.m. and Saturday-Sunday 11 a.m.-4 p.m.). You may also pre-fill our Shelter Adoption Application ahead of time online to save time when you are at the shelter. Your application will be processed after you meet the animal.
Step 3: Tour our adoption rooms and write down the names of animals that you would like to meet. A volunteer or staff member will help you meet your chosen animals to make a match!
Step 4: When you have selected the right animal for you, our Adoptions Team will run your Adoption Application for approval. Once your application is approved, you will participate in an adoption class where you will learn all of the details about your new adopted family member, including their known history and medical records.
What else to expect: Animals who are already spayed/neutered and past their stray hold (if applicable) can often go home with you the same day. Pick-up arrangements for unaltered animals and/or animals still on a stray hold will be made during your adoption class.
**Please note: Animals listed on our adoption pages may still be on stray hold and pending reunion with their owners, or have an existing pending adoption application.

More about this shelter
BARCS is a non-profit, 501(c)3 organization operating Maryland’s largest animal shelter and pet adoption center. We are an open admission shelter, granting refuge to every abandoned, neglected, abused, lost or surrendered animal that comes through our door. A staggering 30 or more animals are surrendered to BARCS every day. No matter what the circumstance, we do not turn away any animal in need of shelter, food, medical care and a loving touch. Yearly, this equates to more than 12,000 dogs, cats, kittens, puppies, and even wildlife and exotic animals that need care and placement.
