Rescue Story
Meet Youngsil – A Story of Resilience, Growth, and Hope
Youngsil’s story is one of extraordinary resilience. Born into a crowded shelter housing over 1,600 dogs, he spent four long years waiting patiently for a chance at a better life. In early 2024, that chance finally came. Youngsil was rescued and brought to Canada where he has been living with a loving foster family ever since.

About Youngsil
Youngsil is smart, brave, loyal, sweet, and joyful. He’s one of the brightest dogs that Eight Paws has ever helped rescue, which makes it so odd and sad that he’s not found his forever home yet.

After more than a year with a foster family, we’re certain how wonderful this young boy is. He greets them (the foster family humans) in the morning when everyone wakes up. He greets them when they come home. He spins in circles when he gets excited (especially for food!). He’s happy and energetic but also calm and obedient. For example, like most dogs, he doesn’t like nail trimmings, but he’ll sit and endure it every time his foster family says “Youngsil, sit!”. (And being the character he is, he often groans a little as he sits to say “I really don’t want to, but I’ll do it for you.”)

As a rescue dog, he’s still working on some issues, like separation anxiety. But we’ve never seen a dog try harder and learn faster than Youngsil. He’s smart and knows what’s going on and how to live with humans (and other dogs), but the poor boy was literally born in a cage and spent the first 4 years of his life in that cage–alone most of the time. So the progress he’s made in the last year is astounding. Except when he’s really stressed or scared, he’s practically a normal, happy dog.

Youngsil needs a house with a backyard to run around in, a family to love him (and for him to greet and share his joy with), and he’d really like another dog to play and walk with, too. (He’s really friendly and social with other dogs, but he’s still learning some “dog language.”) He’s ready to be the perfect family dog that everyone grows up with, who goes along on family adventures, and who the family can’t imagine living without.

More about this rescue

About Eight Paws Dog Rescue
Eight Paws Dog Rescue is a registered Canadian Nonprofit organization that rescues dogs from South Korea and finds them forever homes in Canada. In South Korea, thousands of dogs struggle to survive in overcrowded shelters, and there is very little hope for adoption. But in Canada, these dogs can have an amazing life and a loving family. Eight Paws and its volunteers find, verify, coordinate, and assist the many humans necessary to save each dog–from shelter staff in Korea to Canadian adopters. The effort is great, but the reward is greater because dogs bring love and joy into our lives.
