My personality

My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Ellie is a 5-year-old, 68-lb Labrador/Hound mix who’s ready to leave her past behind and step into a brighter future. For her first four years, she lived as a neglected backyard dog and then as a stray — so home life is new to her. But Ellie is resilient, joyful, and determined to succeed!

She’s been thriving in a live-in training program, learning the skills she needs to be a wonderful companion. Ellie is crate-trained, good on leash, and knows her commands (sit, down, place, recall). She’s dog-friendly, has no prey drive, and never guards high-value treats. She loves swimming, off-leash adventures, and showing off her goofy “somersault” move when she’s happy.

Ellie’s adoption includes required training sessions to help her transition smoothly and maintain her progress. She’ll do best in a calm, well-organized home with active, dog-dedicated humans who can continue her training and give her the love she’s been waiting for. With her big heart and goofy charm, Ellie is ready to be someone’s shadow — and someone’s forever.

For inquiries and/or to apply to adopt Ellie, please contact her trainer and rescuer via email at: blkatk9@gmail.com or send a message via Instagram to @blkatk. Ellie is available in Colorado, although transport may be possible for the right match.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

Our adoption process is a couple of steps.

We ask you to begin by filling out an adoption application to express your interest in any of our animals. Once we receive the application and looked it over, we will contact you to answer any questions you may have about the pet and set up a meet and greet with the 4 legged friend you are interested in.

At that point, if you are interested in moving forward with the adoption, we will conduct a home check to make sure everything's good. We will ask you to sign an adoption agreement and ask for a donation for the adoption process.

More about this rescue

The Jason Debus Heigl Foundation was founded by Nancy and Katherine Heigl to celebrate the memory of a wonderful son and brother. In 1986, Jason was killed in a car accident. He was only fifteen years old.

Throughout his brief lifetime Jason loved all animals, especially dogs and cats and monkeys. He lived his life extending compassion and kindness to all creatures great and small. This foundation is his legacy.

The mission of the JDHF is to eliminate the needless suffering inflicted on animals by human cruelty, indifference, and ignorance. Our primary focus is the greater Los Angeles area, for now.

In pursuit of our mission, the JDHF routinely funds:

Our internal rescue group, the Heigl Hounds of Hope.
Other qualified rescue groups, via Networking donations.
The Transport of LA shelter dogs to states with great demand.
Free Spay Neuter procedures for the pets of qualified caretakers.
Compassion Education programs.
And we thank you for your support.
