My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

What my friends at ACC say about me:

I have potential behavior challenges that staff will address with you when you meet me.

I am looking for a home with a patient person.

I will flourish in a calm environment and a low-traffic home.

Ares has made significant improvement since his first assessment, and while there is a bite history in the home, and some tendencies to become aroused he is currently doing very well in the shelter. He's energetic, focused, and attentive, and comes forward for interactions and enjoys all petting, leaning in nicely for cheek rubs. He's curious about life outside the kennel and was easily picked up and held on two different occasions, where he remained curious and alert but friendly and reasonably calm. When set back down, he remained active and interested in the assessor, and he ate treats that were given to him. His pupils would contract showing that he was highly focused.

Ares interacts with the observer, solicits & appreciates attention, is usually easy to handle and tolerates all petting. We recommend that he go to a home with some cat experience preferred and be well counseled in arousal and his bite history.

A volunteer writes: Ares likes to manage projects. That he manages his projects with varying degrees of success is inconsequential because it's the projects themselves that bring him joy and a sense of purpose. I'm hesitant to speak for Ares and say he's looking to improve but I think it's fair to say that he's looking for more, which is where you come in. When Ares was brought to us in November, we were told he likes to stay busy. His entrance to shelter life has been effortful, as new things sometimes are, but Ares is finding his stride and it shows in his progress. Greeting me at the front of his cubby with cheeks proudly puffed and a playful stance, Ares looked to me for, you guessed it, a project. We cuddled and played and Ares stayed focused on the game until he heard something out in the hallway. Tucking his head into my hand, Ares was content to stretch himself out as he explained that all the projects aside, what he's really been looking for is a chance.
