My personality

My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hal is an approximately 9-year-old Australian Cattle Dog (Blue Heeler) mix, possibly with Pit Bull Terrier, located in Coarsegold, California. We aren’t 100% sure on his exact breed mix because he’s a true rescue dog, but whatever he is, he’s all heart. He was found tangled in a horse corral fence, underweight and missing many of his teeth — almost certainly from long-term neglect and starvation. Since then, he’s been given medical care, good food, and safety. An intestinal infection that caused him to throw up his food last summer has been treated with antibiotics and has fully resolved, and now he’s holding his weight well and feeling good. He’s neutered, on kibble with canned food and soft toppers like sardines, yogurt, and fresh food to accommodate his worn-down and missing teeth, and he’s finally getting a taste of the life he always deserved.

Hal is an easy-going, average-energy dog with a balanced temperament. He’s fine with men, women, and older kids, and does well with his foster’s son and partner. He isn’t comfortable in a crowded dog situation and currently has his own area because there are eight other dogs in the home, but he does well with laid-back, respectful dogs who don’t pester him. Hyper, in-your-face dogs are not his style. He absolutely does not like cats and would likely hurt one if given the chance, but he’s perfectly fine around horses and enjoys walking the 6 acres and along the canal with his person. Loud four-wheelers bother him, but otherwise he manages new sights and sounds with quiet dignity. He sleeps in his dog house with shavings or in a crate inside during bad weather and doesn’t tear up his bedding — he just wants to be comfortable and close to the people he trusts.

One of Hal’s greatest joys in life is water. He absolutely loves it — give him a summer kiddie pool, a hose, or a chance to splash and he lights up like a puppy again. A home that lets him have his “summer pool” and some water playtime will make him the happiest dog on earth.

What Hal wants now is simple: a calm, steady home where he can be someone’s special dog. He’d love daily walks, a little pool to splash in during the summer, toys to play with, and car rides with the windows cracked just enough to sniff the breeze. He’s not a wild, high-maintenance dog — he’s a grateful, seasoned soul who loves attention, loves to be played with, and leans into affection like he can’t believe his luck. There’s a sparkle in his eyes that tells you there’s still plenty of life, love, and joy left in him.

If you’re ready to give a second chance to a dog who has already been through the worst and still chooses to trust, Hal is waiting. If you’re interested, go to diggs4dogs.com and fill out an application.
