My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi, my name is Pupperoni

I’m just a one-year-old pup, and I’m learning how to be brave. The world used to feel really scary, and I’d pancake myself to the floor when it was time to leave my kennel. But with gentle voices and patient encouragement, I’m starting to believe that good things happen outside. Now I walk nicely by your side, no pulling, just doing my best.

Once I’m in the yard, my soft side shines. I give sweet licks, lean in for cuddles, and soak up every bit of kindness. I just need someone who understands that confidence takes time—and love helps it grow. The people here say I’m a staff and volunteer favorite, and that makes my heart feel warm.

Don’t let my barking at the kennel door fool you. It’s just my nerves. The moment I realize you mean kindness, I melt into a little ball of affection, happily accepting pets and treats. I love exploring the world with my nose and saying hello to new friends, both human and canine, through the fence. I even know how to sit and offer my paw—being polite makes me feel proud.

One of my favorite days was when the staff made me my very own ginger-dog house. I ate the whole thing by myself and felt so special. Now, when it’s time to go back to my kennel, I don’t want to go. I’m ready to leave the shelter behind and find my home. I promise I’ll keep learning to be brave, especially with you.

Pupperoni recently met some social dogs at our shelter and did fine. He wasn’t ready to play, but we hope that as he gets more experience in our shelter playgroups, he’ll be ready to show us his silly side with other dogs.  Looking for a buddy for your dog? Bring him/her to the shelter for a meet and greet and see if we`re a match! Check out his playgroup video here:
