Rice is a handsome 1 year and 8 month old New Zealand rabbit with a big personality and an even bigger zest for life! While Rice was in Foster Care he showed just how active, curious, and fun-loving he is. He loves to explore his surroundings and truly thrives when he has space and enrichment to keep both his body and mind busy.
This social boy enjoys interaction and being part of the action. Whether he’s checking out a new toy, rearranging his space, or hopping over to see what you’re up to, Rice is happiest when he has things to do and people to share them with.
As a New Zealand rabbit, Rice is part of a breed known for being intelligent, confident, and people-oriented. New Zealands are often active and engaging companions who do best with room to stretch their legs and a family ready to keep them enriched and involved.
If you’re looking for a friendly, energetic rabbit who will keep you entertained and engaged, Rice could be the perfect addition to your home. With the right setup and plenty of enrichment, this busy boy will absolutely shine.

1. Visit our shelter and choose the animal that you would like to adopt.
Please be aware that the adoption process can take anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours depending on the information we need to cover with you and the number of pets going home at the same time. We know this is a time commitment, but your new pet will appreciate it!
2. Fill out an adoption profile. At PMHS, we use a profile and interview process to ensure that each animal adopted will be matched with the most compatible new owner(s). Once your profile has been reviewed, our adoption counselors will discuss with you any medical or behavioral information relevant to the animal you chose and process your adoption application. Every dog or cat that is adopted from PMHS is up to date with required vaccinations and microchipped.
3. Pay fee.
3. Congratulations! You are now ready to go home with your new pet!

More about this shelter
After 35 years, our organization is now officially known as Pope Memorial Humane Society. Though we have a new name, logo, and facility, it is important to keep in mind that we are the same organization at our core. Our staff, volunteers, and operations remain the same, as does our unfailing commitment to saving the lives of animals in need. We will continue to serve Strafford County and the surrounding areas of New Hampshire and southern Maine with the same dedication. Though we are proud of the growth and impact we have made in the last 35 years as Cocheco Valley Humane Society, we look forward to this new chapter in our organization’s story.
