My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Radar!

We don't know much about Radar's past, as he was abandoned on campus one day with 4 of his siblings. Since then he's been a little shy but is starting to warm up!

On leash, Radar is a relaxed walker who enjoys moving at a comfortable pace, taking frequent sniff breaks to explore his surroundings. He’s perfectly content with a shorter walk and loves to “check in” with you along the way, offering plenty of adorable nose boops.

In a house setting Radar enjoys exploring and engaging his brain. Snuffle mats are a favorite, and he clearly enjoys enrichment activities. When it comes to toys, he’s enthusiastic but polite—if you toss one, he’ll happily run to grab it, drop it right away, then turn and wait patiently for you to pick it up and throw it again. He is non-destructive!

The play yard is where Radar truly shines. He comes out of his shell and loves chasing balls and toys. He is fantastic at fetch, where he will bring the ball back, drop it at your feet, and back up a few steps giving you space to pick up the ball and throw it again! He also enjoys running around and sniffing, fully taking in the environment with confidence and curiosity.

Additional adoption info

Our shelter has more than 500 available cats and dogs every day!
For pets at the shelter: Adoptions must be completed in-person at the shelter. AAC is open for adoption walk-ins every day from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. A shelter pet’s availability can change at any time, so we recommend choosing a few favorites.
For pets in foster: Go to www.AustinAnimalCenter.org to find the pet's profile and click that pet's pink “Adopt Me” button. This will prompt you to complete an adoption questionnaire. Submitting an application does not hold the animal for you.
We have dozens of animals that won't be listed online yet because they're still in their stray hold period, but can be pre-adopted at the shelter in case their owner doesn't come for them.

Adoption Fees:
$80 cats up to 6 years old
$80 dogs 6 months to 6 years, 30 lbs and up
$100 kittens up to 6 months
$120 dogs under 30 lbs and/or under 6 months
No fee for senior pets 7 years and older

More about this shelter

Austin Animal Center is the largest open-intake animal shelter in central Texas and we work very hard to try to save 90% or more of the thousands of animals we shelter every year. We always need volunteers and both monetary and in-kind donations to help us in our sheltering and prevention activities. Visit our website to find out how you can help!
