My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Dandelion – the sweetest late bloomer you’ll ever meet! 🌼💛

After nearly a year in the shelter, Dandelion has truly blossomed into a playful, affectionate, and downright joyful companion. At two years old, this cuddlebug and zoomie enthusiast is soaking up every bit of life on the outside—and he’s ready to share it all with his forever family.

Dandy is a social pup who loves chasing balls, splashing in a kiddie pool, going for walks, and tagging along on whatever adventure the day brings. When it’s time to relax, he’s all about the snuggles—curling up beside you and soaking in the love like it’s his favorite treat.

He gets along well with other dogs and thrives with a little mealtime structure—currently enjoying his meals in a quiet spot to help him feel calm and secure. After eating, he heads out for a quick potty break before jumping back into the fun. He’s doing wonderfully with potty training, going up to 8 hours accident-free during the day and even longer overnight. He sleeps soundly on a couch, dog bed, or right next to you if invited.

Dandelion walks beautifully on a harness and shorter leash, exploring the world at your side with curiosity and calm. He’s smart, eager to engage, and channels his energy into all the right things—like enrichment toys, frozen carrots, stuffed Kongs, Chuck-It balls, and durable chews. He redirects easily and is always up for learning.

Because of an old vocal cord injury, Dandy doesn’t bark loudly—but he makes up for it with happy wiggles, soulful eyes, and gentle energy that speaks volumes. He’ll thrive with continued consistency, love, and either leashed adventures or a secure yard to safely enjoy the outdoors.

Dandelion is that rare blend of fun-loving and affectionate, making him the perfect hiking buddy, poolside pal, and loyal snuggle partner. He’s bloomed beautifully—now all he needs is a home where he can keep growing, loved and safe.

Additional adoption info

Our shelter has more than 500 available cats and dogs every day!
For pets at the shelter: Adoptions must be completed in-person at the shelter. AAC is open for adoption walk-ins every day from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. A shelter pet’s availability can change at any time, so we recommend choosing a few favorites.
For pets in foster: Go to www.AustinAnimalCenter.org to find the pet's profile and click that pet's pink “Adopt Me” button. This will prompt you to complete an adoption questionnaire. Submitting an application does not hold the animal for you.
We have dozens of animals that won't be listed online yet because they're still in their stray hold period, but can be pre-adopted at the shelter in case their owner doesn't come for them.

Adoption Fees:
$80 cats up to 6 years old
$80 dogs 6 months to 6 years, 30 lbs and up
$100 kittens up to 6 months
$120 dogs under 30 lbs and/or under 6 months
No fee for senior pets 7 years and older
