My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

I've been fostering Candy Land for the last few months and she is such a sweet girl! Candy Land is house trained, not destructive, and great in a kennel for long periods of time. She has a good balance of energy to play in the yard and a healthy love for napping. She will greet you every morning with full body wiggles and a smile! (Yes, an actual smile!)

Candy Land knows how to sit and how to go get in her spot, whether that's her bed or her spot on the couch. She has been taught food manners; she will sit and wait until you say yes before eating her meal. She is very food motivated, which is great for training and nail trimming, but don't leave food trash out because she'll happily vacuum up every last morsel! She gently accepts treats and doesn't beg while you finish a meal; a true lady.

She would be a great family dog as she does well around older kids. She is dog selective, but has lived with other dogs well matched. She loves car rides and will sit well in the front or the back seat. She even enjoys the window down a little bit!

Fun facts about Candy Land are she does well around farm animals, can bounce on a trampoline, and only barks at the scary Amazon delivery man!

Candy Land was in the shelter for a long period of time, but has really opened up in foster care to show what a sweet and loving girl she is. Please reach out if you're ready to give this sweet girl the forever home she's looking for!

Additional adoption info

Our shelter has more than 500 available cats and dogs every day!
For pets at the shelter: Adoptions must be completed in-person at the shelter. AAC is open for adoption walk-ins every day from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. A shelter pet’s availability can change at any time, so we recommend choosing a few favorites.
For pets in foster: Go to www.AustinAnimalCenter.org to find the pet's profile and click that pet's pink “Adopt Me” button. This will prompt you to complete an adoption questionnaire. Submitting an application does not hold the animal for you.
We have dozens of animals that won't be listed online yet because they're still in their stray hold period, but can be pre-adopted at the shelter in case their owner doesn't come for them.

Adoption Fees:
$80 cats up to 6 years old
$80 dogs 6 months to 6 years, 30 lbs and up
$100 kittens up to 6 months
$120 dogs under 30 lbs and/or under 6 months
No fee for senior pets 7 years and older

More about this shelter

Austin Animal Center is the largest open-intake animal shelter in central Texas and we work very hard to try to save 90% or more of the thousands of animals we shelter every year. We always need volunteers and both monetary and in-kind donations to help us in our sheltering and prevention activities. Visit our website to find out how you can help!
