My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Bunny

This sweet lady came to the shelter in urgent need of safety and care. She came from a tough situation and her condition was rough. She's spent the last few months on an amazing journey back to wellness, and to increased mobility. Bunny can now do everything that dogs do - besides being a great guest at home, she's house trained, she enjoys a little yard time and sunshine on her face. Short walks for exercise help her muscle strength. She's also a fish while guided in a swimming pool. She gives and receives so many affections. She's earned a reputation as a lap dog.

Bunny has a condition that makes her wobbly and unsteady on her feet, but she is aided by standard traction helpers like rugs, mats and being on flat surfaces when outdoors. Her Help Em Up harness also makes things a whole lot easier to guide her when needed. Bunny will do best in a single story arrangement as an only animal in her home.

Bunny's care includes occasional skin and eye management, and keeping her muscles in good tone. Her advocates at ClassicCaninesATX have been providing her care at an outside clinic and will help with supplies and some future veterinary care funding for an adopter.

Are you ready to make a difference in the life of a lady that has come this far already to prepare to meet you? Are you the person who will welcome her to unconditional forever love? Put her on your short list - and reach out on her link to talk with her foster provider or contact caring@classiccanines.org with questions about adoption support.

Additional adoption info

Our shelter has more than 500 available cats and dogs every day!
For pets at the shelter: Adoptions must be completed in-person at the shelter. AAC is open for adoption walk-ins every day from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. A shelter pet’s availability can change at any time, so we recommend choosing a few favorites.
For pets in foster: Go to www.AustinAnimalCenter.org to find the pet's profile and click that pet's pink “Adopt Me” button. This will prompt you to complete an adoption questionnaire. Submitting an application does not hold the animal for you.
We have dozens of animals that won't be listed online yet because they're still in their stray hold period, but can be pre-adopted at the shelter in case their owner doesn't come for them.

Adoption Fees:
$80 cats up to 6 years old
$80 dogs 6 months to 6 years, 30 lbs and up
$100 kittens up to 6 months
$120 dogs under 30 lbs and/or under 6 months
No fee for senior pets 7 years and older

More about this shelter

Austin Animal Center is the largest open-intake animal shelter in central Texas and we work very hard to try to save 90% or more of the thousands of animals we shelter every year. We always need volunteers and both monetary and in-kind donations to help us in our sheltering and prevention activities. Visit our website to find out how you can help!
