My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

House trained: Yes Energy level: High Noise level: Im a chatty guy, its a hound thing! My foster guardian says: My favorite thing about Shamrock is what a perfect cuddle muffin he is! Likes: Walks, playing at the dog park, swimming, riding in the car Hi there! My names Shamrock, and Id be the luckiest find for any family! My foster family calls me a gem of a dog, and Ill tell you why! I get along with absolutely everyone (human and canine alike), Im really well trained, and of course Im totally adorable! My foster family says that Im a loving, happy, smart dog, with lots of energy and curiosity. Im amazing with other dogs and make new friends every time I leave the house. Everybody calls me The Mayor of the Dog Park because before I run off to play, I like to greet every other dog owner whenever I first arrive to the dog park! I have to make sure that everybody gets some Shamrock love to brighten their day! Once Im ready to play, my favorite things to do are to run, wrestle, and play tug. In my forever home, Id love to have a doggy sibling to play with, or some human buddies who love to have a good time! My foster family calls me an absolute whiz, because Im so clever at food puzzles and learning new tricks! I like to keep my brain busy, so I love interactive food toys and games. I know tons of tricks, commands, and skills including Sit,, Stay,, Come, Down, Off, Heel,, Leave it", This Way," "Find It," "Side"/"Sit," Puppy Push Ups (sit to down and back) Puppy in the Middle (sitting in between someone's legs when they are standing), "Touch" and "Watch Me". Im also totally crate trained, potty trained, and really good about relaxing in the house and walking on leash without pulling. Im a hound, which means that Im an amazing communicator (see above, Im the mayor!). So, dont be surprised if you hear me make my opinion known. Im very well-behaved and polite, but I do like to vocalize! My foster family says that Ill be a fantastic dog for an active family who are going to love all of my goofy personality traits, and snuggles! So, if youre looking for a loyal, loving, companion with a zest for life, stop looking over four-leaf clovers, and add a Shamrock to your family today! Additional adoption info

Adoption area is Washington, D.C area, including Northern Virginia and Maryland. All adoptions require a completed adoption application. Our adoption coordinators will contact you soon after reviewing the application. Our adoption fee is $450 to help off set the costs of rescuing dogs in need. All dogs go to their new homes spayed or neutered, up to date on all shots, wormed (although a 2nd worming may be required), started on heart worm and flea and tick preventative and sometimes microchipped.

Although we try to be as accurate as possible, Rural Dog Rescue cannot guarantee the breed or full-grown adult size of any of the dogs or puppies in its care. Because many of these dogs were found as strays or are the result of irresponsible, unplanned breeding, we do not know the dog's exact background and can only list breed and size by our best educated guess. If exact breed and size are important to you, please consider adopting a dog from a specific breed rescue. We want our dogs to be adopted by people who will love and care for them forever for who they are - no matter what breed and size they turn out to be!

More about this rescue

Rural Dog Rescue is a non-profit organization whose mission is to save the lives of dogs and cats in high-kill shelters in rural areas with euthanasia rates of 80% or higher.

Mission Statement: Forever true to The Underdog, Rural Dog Rescue is dedicated to saving the lives of dogs in shelters who are often overlooked for adoption or rescue. We save the dogs who are at most risk of being euthanized: the hounds, the black dogs, the seniors, the sick and the broken. We make a commitment to reserve a minimum of 50% of the dogs we save to The Underdog. Root For The Underdog!

Rural Dog Rescue's home base is in Washington, DC. We support several high kill shelters that euthanize in 72 hours and whose kill rate is 70% or higher in rural areas of Virginia, West Virginia, North and South Carolina. Rural Dog Rescue also helps dogs in need in Washington, DC and Maryland.

We are 100% volunteer and foster based and no salaries are paid. 100% of your donation and adoption fee goes to helping the dogs and cats of Rural Dog Rescue.
