My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

🤍🐾 Meet Jujubee: A Beautiful Soul Who Needs a Soft Place to Land 🐾🤍
Female | 1 year old | 9 lbs | Terrier Mix

Jujubee is one of those dogs who is impossibly cute… but carries a heavy story.
She had a very rough start to life, and because of that, she struggles with fear and human reactivity. When she feels overwhelmed or threatened, she goes into fight mode. It’s not aggression - it’s deep anxiety mixed with self-protection.
Right now, we are focusing on her healing first.

Jujubee came to us from Oʻahu with three other dogs where they were all extremely scared and anxious. After a lot of decompression, patience, and gentle handling, she’s finally starting to trust again.

✨ What Jujubee Needs
• A quiet home with no small children
• Dog-savvy teenagers only, in a calm, low-traffic environment
• No frequent visitors or lots of people coming and going
• An experienced owner who understands behaviorally shy or reactive dogs
• Someone patient and committed to long-term confidence building

She is very dog social and actually thrives around other balanced dogs. She came from a home with 11 dogs and does best when she has a polite, well-balanced dog buddy to help regulate her emotions and model good energy. She mirrors other dogs beautifully, so a calm companion dog will help her build trust faster and feel safer.

Once she bonds with someone, Jujubee becomes the sweetest, happiest, most playful little girl. She’s bouncy, silly, full of life… but if a new person enters her space too quickly, she regresses into fear. And no one wants to live with that level of anxiety - for her or for themselves.

That’s where confidence building, patience, and structure come in.
We are posting her now for pre-adoption interest while we continue working with her in foster. She won’t be rushed or moved place to place – her emotional safety comes first.

✨ The right home will see her not as “too much,” but as a soul worth the work.
If you believe you could be that stable, patient environment for Jujubee’s healing journey, we’d love to connect.

More about this rescue

At Aloha Ilio, we strive to ensure every dog is matched up with an owner that is serious about the commitment adopting a dog entails, while at the same time ensuring that both parties are happy to become a family together. Above even our desire to rescue dogs is ensuring that those already under our care have the best quality of life possible. We strive to ensure our facilities stay clean, our dogs have the opportunity to stretch their legs, and all of them get the medical care and attention they deserve.
