My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Chocoa!

Name: Chocoa

Age: 3 years

Sex: Neutered Male

Breed: Spitz–Jindo mix

Color: Black/Brown

Weight: 17kg

Height (shoulder): 45cm

His Rescue Story

Chocoa was found wandering near a rural farm and taken to a shelter.

He was rescued just in time before his scheduled euthanasia in February.

Now he’s safe, loved, and slowly learning how to trust again

‍‍ Social with People

Chocoa is shy, cautious, and needs time to feel comfortable — especially with new men. With his current foster, it took a couple of days for him to accept touch, and he became familiar with new visitors after three to four visits.

Once he bonds, he becomes deeply attached — follows his person, comes when called, enjoys being close, and seeks gentle affection.

He loves head scratches, chin rubs, belly support when being held, and will nudge your hand or paw at you for more pets.

He can be picked up and handled safely.

Social with Dogs

He politely greets unfamiliar dogs and shows curiosity, but doesn’t yet know how to play with them.

He prefers exploring on his own and avoids conflict — if another dog challenges him, he simply walks away.

A calm, respectful dog companion or being the only dog would be ideal.

With Cats

During walks, he ignores cats and stays focused on his handler

Energy Level

Moderate,  happy outdoors, relaxed and quiet at home.

After exercise, he rests peacefully.

Walks

He LOVES walks and gets excited when the leash comes out!

Comfortable with both collar and harness, although he may pull at times due to curiosity.

He generally follows his person well and enjoys exploring.

Other Behaviors

No resource guarding toward people or dogs

Rarely barks — may bark a few times if a new person enters the home

Quiet outside, even around strangers

Excellent with crate/kennel training — goes in willingly

Outdoor potty trained; may use indoor pad if necessary

Nervous about car rides — needs help being lifted in

Ideal Home

A patient, understanding family who will give him time to adjust and help build his confidence.

Once he trusts you, he becomes a loyal, affectionate, deeply devoted companion.

If you think Chocoa could be part of your family, we’d love to hear from you!

More about this rescue

Adopt Korean Rescue is a volunteer-based federally registered not-for-profit organization dedicated to helping homeless and unwanted dogs in South Korea find a new home in Canada.

We love Korean dogs. Many of them live in chains, give birth on the side of the road, or wander around with their pups. Some of them get caught and end up at dog meat farms or high-kill shelters in South Korea. They luckily meet us just before euthanasia or after many years of living in dog meat farms. We exist to hold their paws and help them find a forever home in Canada full of joy and happiness.

Our dog rescue work depends on our flight volunteers. They help us safely bring our dogs from Korea to Vancouver or Toronto airports, where the dogs will find loving forever or foster homes.
