My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hello!  My name is Jenny.  Oh boy, am I ever SWEET!  I was dropped off at a vet clinic with my two brothers when I was six months old and then I lived there for 3 months.  Now, I'm in a foster home and I LOVE having a home!  The vet thinks I was born around January of 2025 and I weigh about 35 - 40 pounds.  I think I am a cattle dog mix - I'm white and tan-speckled. Oh my gosh and I am very soft.  I am terrific and VERY calm in the house, I am house trained, crate trained and I am great at using a doggie door.  I am a quiet girl, I'm polite and very gentle. I LOVE other dogs (heck, even the little ones like me), kids AND I like kitties a lot (I like to take naps with them - see one of my pictures).  At first I'm a little bit shy but my foster mom is working on showing me that people are really nice.  At the vet office that I lived at there were 7 ladies!  So, I'm still getting to see that men are nice too! Just give me time to keep getting confident.I will sit for treats and I love chewies like Oinkies and Bully Sticks.  I might need you to have some for me for a while since I'm still a pup and I need to chew (and will) for a little bit longer. I will outgrow the naughty part of chewing but will always like having chewies to enjoy. I'm also still a little bit in my puppy digging stage so please keep an eye on me for a while and maybe put me in a crate when you leave the house for a while.  But I really will outgrow these things. I LOVE nice walks, I'm very good on a leash and also I ride very well in the car.  I am a wonderful bed buddy. If you let me sleep in your room I will lay down and sleep all night (close the door just in case).  When I get older I would be able to have the run of the house and not get into trouble but in the beginning, please put me in a crate or in a single room with a person.   I don't really care about toys right now - I prefer the company of living friends.  My life revolves around you.  Maybe I could be a therapy dog!  Come and get me!!!!

If you are interested in her, please send an email to SCP! Applications can be found on our website at secondchancepets.org under the "Forms" tab. Please complete and return to us for review!

Adopter for this dog must reside in the immediate Houston/Galveston area and be at least 25 years old. A home visit may be required prior to this dog going to any home. The adoption fee for a dog is $190 (or $245 for puppies). All dogs are microchipped, on heartworm protection, spayed/neutered, vaccinated, de-wormed and treated for fleas. Adoptions are held on Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Clear Lake Petco, 2410 Bay Area Boulevard.

Since all our dogs are in foster homes, an individual dog may not be at our weekly Adoption Event due to conflict with a foster's schedule. If you are interested in meeting a particular dog, please send an email to scpdogworld@gmail.com so that the Dog Coordinator can let you know if the dog will be at the Saturday Adoption Event at Petco. If you just want to meet some great dogs looking for their forever home, please come visit with us on Saturday!

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

Potential adopters must complete an application and SCP volunteers can help adopters identify cats and dogs that will fit best in their homes. SCP adoption counselors review the applications, conduct in-person interviews and discuss pet care responsibilities with potential adopters. SCP checks applicants' vet references and may conduct a home visit at its discretion. So that the best interests of the pet are served, SCP reserves the right to refuse an adoption to anyone. The adoption fee starts at $110 for cats ($175 for two cats), $190 for dogs and $245 for puppies.

SCP tries to ensure that all pets are healthy at the time of adoption. All are examined by veterinarians when they enter the program. All are vaccinated, spayed/neutered, de-wormed, tested/treated for parasites and disease (such as heartworms, fleas, feline leukemia and FIV) as needed. Cats are vaccinated for FVRCP and FeLV. Dogs are vaccinated for DHLPP and Corona virus. Animals are kept in foster homes to minimize exposure to disease and to help them be well-adjusted. It is the policy of SCP that no cat or dog may be sent to a permanent home before it is fully vetted, including spay or neuter. All of our rescued animals are microchipped.

Go meet their pets

SCP does not have a shelter or an office location. The rescued pets, volunteers, fosters, and adopters who comprise SCP come from all over the Galveston Bay area (mainly north Galveston and south Harris counties). Our adoptable animals are fostered and loved in volunteer homes until a permanent home is found.

SCP has cats and dogs available for adoption every Saturday (cats 10:30-2:30 and dogs 11:00-2:00) at the Petco store in Clear Lake (2410 Bay Area Boulevard, Houston, TX 77058 - corner of Bay Area and Space Center). A few cats may also be seen during the week in the condos at this Petco location.
