Here's what the humans have to say about me:
😄 Xaden – The Smiley Boy with a Heart of Gold Age: 1½ years
Meet Xaden, the handsome brindle boy who believes every day is a reason to smile! This cheerful pup has been through a bit of a rough patch — he came to us with an infected eye — but he’s handled everything like the well-mannered gentleman he is. With a little continued care and medication, he’ll be feeling (and looking) his very best in no time.
Despite it all, Xaden’s tail never stops wagging. He greets everyone with that signature grin and a spirit that can brighten even the grayest days. Friendly, resilient, and full of love, he’s proof that a good attitude can heal just about anything.
If you’re looking for a loyal companion with an unshakable smile and a heart as big as his grin, Xaden’s your guy. 🐾💛 Give us a call at (740) 314-5583 for more information!

More about this shelter
We are the Jefferson County Humane Society and , except for our humane officers (who are paid very nominally), we are all volunteers! Our members were instrumental in getting a local levy passed to build a new and larger shelter and the doors opened in 2011. We are currently participating in Iams Home for the Holidays Program and the Purina Pets for People grant program. We are actively pursuing other grants and recently have been asked by the county to partner with them in the operation of the new shelter. Since we are a humane society, our main focus is on getting animals spayed and neutered so there are no more homeless pets. To that end, we bring in a mobile animal surgical clinic who performs spays and neuters at a reduced rate. We are always looking for volunteers to help us in our efforts and, of course, for financial contributions (we are a non-profit, 501 (c)3) and pet adopters! Other items such as food, treats, pet carriers, cages, leashes, collars, food bowls, etc. are also ALWAYS welcomed and appreciated. Please contact us if you have an item to be donated or would like to volunteer with us to try to save some of these homeless, but very loveable, dogs!
