My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Allie appears to be around 3 years of age and is in good health. She was surrendered to the county pound due to her owner passing away. She was raising 4 puppies when Bedford Humane took her into foster care. All the puppies have found forever homes and now it is Allie's time. She has learned it is okay to be crated and is house trained. Allie lived with other hound breeds and is now in foster care with another dog. Allie gets excited when let out of her crate, therefore you must be quick to get her outside to potty. She does the zoomies in a fenced yard and plays by herself very well. Allie has met a young child and is a little leery about the high pitched voice. She shows no bad behavior, just stays away. She is very interested in cats, therefore it might be best to have a no cat home. Allie would be a great hiker and a running partner. At the end of the day she has lots of love to give someone.

Allie has been dewormed, microchipped, vaccinated, tested for heartworms, is on heartworm preventative, and is spayed.

Submit Application

Website www.bhsva.org and fill out an application for cat or dog. Once application approved we contact you for a meet and greet.

Additional adoption info

Have you discovered a pet you wish to adopt? Great!

Now, the first step is to complete an adoption application on our website at www.bhsva.org. This is not a commitment to adopt. It is simply the first step in the process.

We will review your application for preliminary approval before asking the foster parent to contact you to set up a time to meet the pet. You may also have concerns about how the animal will fit your home environment. When the foster parent contacts you, you will be able to discuss your concerns with someone who has first-hand experience with the pet.

After you meet the animal, you and the foster parent can decide if this is definitely the forever pet for you.

More about this rescue

The Bedford Humane Society is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in 1994 and dedicated to eliminating the overpopulation of cats and dogs in Bedford County, VA through education, spay/neuter programs, and companion animal adoptions. We are NOT the tax-funded Bedford County shelter on Falling Creek Road, although we do try to help the animals there whenever possible. Our adoptable pets live in volunteer foster homes where they receive the care and attention they deserve while awaiting a permanent home.

Our various programs for Bedford County and City of Bedford residents include::

•A low cost spay/neuter program for area pets
•The construction of an adoption animal center, Vernon D Lybolt Adoption Center, at 829 Ole Turnpike Road in Bedford.
•Find homes for abandoned and homeless animals through our adoption program.
•Help pet owners with unexpected expenses involving their pets, through our Emergency Fund program.
•Provide humane traps and spay/neuter subsidies for feral cats through our Forgotten Felines program.
•Humane Education program for area Scout troops and schools.
