My personality

My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Derrick!

Derrick is a handsome 4-month-old (as of 1/4) tabby with a curious mind and an adventurous spirit. From the moment he wakes up, he’s ready to explore—checking out every corner of the apartment like it’s his personal mission. Those early days were full of nonstop motion (classic kitten energy!), but now that he’s settled in, Derrick has found a much nicer balance between playtime and chill time.

Derrick would be a great match for someone looking for a playful, interactive kitten. He truly thrives when he has plenty of stimulation—wand toys, enrichment, and engagement bring out the very best in him (honestly, a good rule for any cat!). When his needs are met, he’s been one of the easiest kittens around.

He loves being near his people and often follows his foster around the apartment. When it’s bedtime, he heads into his “bedroom” on his own and calmly lets the door be closed—no protests necessary. He’s easy to handle, doesn’t fight being picked up, and even listens when told “no”… most of the time (he is still a kitten!).

Derrick is a social guy and would likely do best in a home with another pet. He happily initiates play with his foster’s dog and clearly enjoys having animal companions around. He also adores human company and purrs loudly—both when he’s content and when he’s feeling a little unsure.

While Derrick isn’t a full-on lap cat just yet, he does enjoy affection. He loves pets when he’s settled in his bed and will even offer his belly. Outside his room, he’s usually too busy exploring to lounge for long, though he’ll hang out on the couch for a few minutes at a time. With age and maturity, his cuddly side may continue to grow.

His manners are top-notch:
✔ Litter box etiquette: A+
✔ Rarely uses his claws
✔ Never bites

Because of his gentle nature, Derrick may do well in a home with respectful younger kids, though he hasn’t been officially tested yet.

Derrick is a fun, affectionate, and well-adjusted kitten who’s ready to bring energy, companionship, and a whole lot of purring into his forever home.

More about this rescue

PupStarz Rescue is an animal welfare group committed to the rescue and rehabilitation of dogs and cats in public shelters at high risk of euthanasia, as well as those in danger of abuse. We are committed to rescuing as many animals as possible, saving over 4,500 dogs and cats since 2015.

PupStarz Rescue is a foster-based rescue, relying on fosters to open their homes and lives to our Animals. Animals in our care receive proper medical care, including alteration, vaccinations, and microchipping.

Following a thorough screening, our animals are placed in loving, responsible, committed forever homes. PupStarz Rescue ensures that adoptions are an appropriate match for both the animal and their new family by educating prospective adopters about the responsibilities and costs of bringing a furry companion into their lives.

We are committed to the welfare of our "Starz" beyond the adoption process. We maintain open communication with our adopters to ensure a smooth transition, and offer additional support such as positive training techniques.

Founded in 2015, PupStarz Rescue is a non-profit, 501(c)3, no-kill, animal rescue organization.
