My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Nellie! 🐾💖

Nellie is a sweet, adorable terrier mix with a big heart and a lot of love to give. This special girl has only three legs, but don’t let that fool you—she’s full of energy, charm, and the sweetest personality you could ever hope for.

Nellie is gentle, loving, and ready to be someone’s loyal companion. She enjoys attention, cuddles, and being part of a family that will cherish her for the amazing girl she is. Her resilient, happy spirit shines through every day, and she’ll bring joy, laughter, and unconditional love to her forever home.

Nellie is ready to find her forever family—a caring, patient home where she can be adored, celebrated, and loved just the way she is. 🐾

You can view our available animals online or by visiting the shelter during regular business hours. Our knowledgeable and compassionate staff are here to guide you through the adoption process, which includes completing an application and having a conversation to ensure you’re fully informed and prepared to welcome a new pet into your home.

If you find an animal on our website that you’re interested in, we kindly ask that you visit the shelter to meet them in person before submitting your application. This helps ensure the best possible match for both you and the animal.

More about this shelter

The Gulf Coast Humane Society is a private, non-profit 501(c)(3) animal welfare organization dedicated to serving the animals and community of Southwest Florida. We receive no federal, state, or county funding, nor do we receive financial support from the Humane Society of the United States. Instead, our lifesaving work is made possible through the generosity of individual donations, grants, bequests, and community fundraising efforts.

As a no kill shelter, Gulf Coast Humane Society is committed to providing compassionate care for unwanted, neglected, and abandoned animals. We never euthanize due to space constraints or the length of time an animal has been in our care. Our mission is to give every animal the second chance they deserve in a safe and loving environment.
