My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Sammie is a beautiful 3-year-old sweetheart whose personality shines as brightly as her stunning eyes. She’s as friendly and silly as her little half bobtail, which seems to wiggle with pure joy when she meets someone new. Sammie is the kind of cat who instantly decides you’re her friend—she’ll trot right up, start chatting, and happily settle in for cuddles like she’s known you forever. She’s warm, goofy, affectionate, and absolutely unforgettable. A true gem in every sense.

Sammie’s journey hasn’t been the easiest. She was found wandering the streets, still her sweet self, but facing the challenges of outdoor life on her own. During that time, she unfortunately contracted FeLV. Even so, Sammie’s spirit has never dulled—she remains bright, loving, playful, and ready for a forever home where she can be cherished. She can be adopted as an only cat or with another FeLV-positive companion.

What is FeLV?

Feline Leukemia Virus (FeLV) is a virus that affects a cat’s immune system. While FeLV-positive cats may be more prone to illness, many live comfortable, meaningful, joy-filled lives for years with proper care, regular vet visits, and a low-stress environment. Sammie is a wonderful example of a cat who hasn’t let FeLV dim her sparkle.

For Her Future Family

If you’re considering adopting Sammie, here’s what to keep in mind:

  • It’s important to be attentive to changes or signs of illness, as her immune system is more vulnerable.

  • Sammie must live as an only cat, or with another FeLV-positive cat.

Sammie may have had a tough beginning, but she has held onto every bit of her sweetness and sparkle. She’s ready to brighten a home with her cuddles, her chatter, and that adorable bobtail that seems to wiggle its way right into your heart. If you’re ready to welcome a truly special companion, Sammie can’t wait to meet you.

More about this shelter

Standish Humane Society is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization dedicated to assisting our local community with low cost spay and neuters to reduce the overpopulation of felines on the South Shore of MA. We actively trap, neuter, feed and assess feral community cat colonies to further reduce the overpopulation and suffering of outdoor kitties. We rehome adoptable cats and kittens to safe loving forever homes and whenever possible we transport cats and kittens from high kill shelters to areas within our own geography looking for pets. We promise to rescue, rehabilitate and rehome adoptable felines. We hope to ensure healthy domesticated pets and community cats through both education and affordable spay and neuter services, and inspire a community in which all felines, feral and friendly are understood and cared for.
