FREEDOM NEEDS A FOREVER HOME!!!!
Name: Freedom Best Guess for Breed: Wheaten terrier mix
Best Guess for Age: 5 years as of October 2025 SEX: Male
Approximate Weight: 22 lbs
Gets Along With: Other dogs! We haven't seen him with cats or kids but we are happy to discuss integration techniques with any potential adopters!
Currently Living at: DC area foster home
Special adoption considerations: Freedom recently had a biopsy that revealed a subcutaneous mast cell tumor, which was found to be less aggressive. The mass has been successfully removed; however, due to its deep attachment to the muscle and ribs, there is a possibility that small remnants may remain. This means there is an estimated 30-50% chance that the tumor could return over time.
The oncologist has recommended a treatment plan of steroid therapy (1 mg/kg/day) combined with chemotherapy or local electrochemotherapy to target any remaining tumor cells. Alternatively, a more budget-conscious approach would be to monitor Freedom closely and begin prednisone treatment only if there are signs of recurrence or spread. We are happy to discuss Freedom’s medical needs in more detail with potential adopters.
Dogs from Puerto Rico have a major transition to go through when they arrive and will need humans who are very committed to socialization. We think Freedom would do best with either a resident dog or a family who can make sure he can go on walks regularly with other dogs, visit the dog park, or go to doggie daycare to learn the ropes.
Freedom is Looking For: Freedom is a sato - a dog from Puerto Rico. He's a sweet, shy boy that opens up quickly and who wants nothing more than to love and be loved. Sniffy walks, romps in parks, all the adventures his new humans can dream up - oh yes, those too! But most of all, he wants to know where he belongs, to always be safe and loved. In exchange, he has so many adoring gazes, so much loyalty to offer. What do you say? Is Freedom who you have been looking for?
What My Foster Says About Me: We will update this once he has spent time in foster care.
