Meet Kirby — a tiny 8-lb chihuahua mix with a big heart that needs time to bloom.
At 5 years old, Kirby is a gentle, sensitive soul who is still learning that the world can be a safe and loving place. He arrived very scared, and new people, sounds, and environments can feel overwhelming for him. But underneath that worry is a sweet little boy who wants to trust — he just needs the right family to help him get there.
Kirby will thrive in a quiet, calm home with someone who understands that progress comes in small steps. He’ll need a patient family willing to let him open up at his own pace, offering soft voices, slow movements, and lots of reassurance. When he feels safe, his personality begins to peek through, and it’s such a gift to watch him make those brave little moments of connection.
He does very well with other dogs and might even benefit from having a confident canine friend to show him the ropes. Because of his timid nature and tiny size, we are looking for an adult-only home for him.
If you’re the kind of person who finds joy in helping a fearful dog learn to trust — if you’re gentle, patient, and willing to let Kirby set the pace — he could become an incredibly loyal and loving companion.

The adoption fee of $400 will include spay/neuter, microchip, age appropriate/required vaccinations, treatment for heartworm and any other necessary medical treatment to assure a healthy new pup for your family. IMPORTANT DISCLAIMER: Although we do our best to describe breed, since our pups all come from shelters we can not and will not make any guarantee on breed or size. We can tell you that they are 100% RESCUED! And that is the BEST breed!
*please note that we are a foster home based rescue and we do home visits as part of the adoption process - we are unable to adopt to families who live outside of the Chicago and surrounding suburbs. Thank you for your understanding.
