My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Esther is a 6-year-old Dachshund/Chihuahua mix who came to us after being surrendered to a shelter with the intent of euthanasia. Thankfully, we were able to intervene and bring her safely to For Pet’s Sake Rescue, where she has been in our care since early November.

Esther is a timid girl who takes time to feel secure in a new environment. In the beginning, she may hide, avoid cuddling, and show her discomfort through shivering. This is simply her way of processing change. With patience and consistency, Esther slowly acclimates, and once she does, the transformation is truly worth the wait.

When she feels safe, Esther reveals her true self: a loving cuddle bug who enjoys companionship and affection. She does well with other dogs and cats, is kennel trained, and fully housetrained. Inside the home, she is calm, easygoing, and well-mannered. Outside, however, her confident side shines and she proudly patrols her space, chasing squirrels while keeping watch over her home.

Esther would thrive in a patient, understanding home that allows her the time she needs to settle in and blossom. In return, she offers loyalty, warmth, and a big heart in a small package.

PLEASE READ THIS TO ADOPT: ***ALL ANIMALS ARE CURRENTLY IN LONG BEACH, MISSISSIPPI.*** We transport adopted animals every 2-3 weeks to Northeast states.

Completed applications take precedence over inquiries. If you are interested in adopting, the FIRST step is to complete an application.  We will discuss additional details with potential adopters once we have an application on file.

For Pet's Sake Rescue is a Mississippi based rescue. We are located in an overpopulated area surrounded by high-kill shelters.

Adoption fees include transport, vetting and a MS Health Certificate to travel. Each pet is spayed/neutered, receives age appropriate vaccines, dewormed, heartworm test (6 months and older) microchipped and  flea/tick/heartworm prevention.

***Breed input is required for each platform but is not guaranteed to be accurate. We do not breed or DNA test.***

For this reason, we ask each person interested in adopting to complete an application. The application requests information about the potential family including their home and occupants, as well as requests a vet references. If you do not have a vet reference, please email photos of your home (and yard-if you are adopting a dog) to adoptions@forpetssakerescue.org after completing an application.

We reserve the right to refuse an adoption. We know these animals on a personal level and make judgement calls with their best interest at heart.

Required: Completed application, include a government issued photo ID with current address or an article of mail going to your current address in your name. We will not begin the application process without proper identification on file.

Once approved, you will be emailed an Adoption Contract and Invoice from Wagtopia. Adoption fees are not refundable.

Transport Animals Only: Once your adoption contract is signed and the adoption fee is paid, you pets is reserved a kennel on transport. The adopter will then be provided a WhatsApp group link to stay updated on the transport. Dates are established via initial emails. The final timeline is submitted via WhatsApp the Wednesday evening before transport. During pick up, you will receive your new family member and their vetting records. Please be patient to receive these records.

Do not complete an application if you are not ready for a pet -or- need more time. We do not have paid staff that handles adoptions. Board Members voluntarily process each adoption on their own time.

More about this rescue

Our goal is to provide stray and abused animals a safe haven to heal, learn to trust humans, and go on to be wonderful pets in loving homes. We take the time to match our animals with the right adopters in hopes that they will never be misplaced again.

For Pet's Sake Rescue was established in 2019 in Long Beach, MS. Each year, our intake increases by hundreds of animals. For Pet's Sake Rescue helps Harrison County, Hancock County, Jackson County and George County. Our focus is on transporting animals out of the South to help reduce the overpopulation issue and the continued circulation of animals within the MS Gulf Coast.
