My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hiya friends! My name is GIZMO and here is some info about me:

PHYSICAL INFO:

  • Breed: Terrier, Maltese mix

  • Age: Approx.1 year old

  • Gender: Male

  • Weight: 17 lbs (7.8 kg)

  • Height: 46 cm (paws to top of my head), 36 cm (paws to shoulders)

  • Length: 52 cm (head to butt)

  • Neck: 29 cm

  • Chest: 46 cm

  • Current Location: MEXICO CITY

RESCUE STORY - I was found in an area around one of the prisons in Mexico City that is often used as a dumping ground for unwanted dogs. Volunteers are working to get all of the abandoned dogs to safety, as the "unwanted" dogs are regularly disposed of by poisoning. I was one of the lucky ones, because a local rescuer took me home with them while they searched for a shelter to officially take me on. Luckily, La Casa shelter accepted me soon after, and I has been living her for the past four months. My rescuers think I once lived in a home, based on my temperament and sociability. Unfortunately, they think I may have been abandoned as a pup due to my underbite, as a lot of dogs with underbites are considered unattractive and abandoned. Can you believe it?? When I was rescued in June 2025, I was underweight but otherwise healthy. I am safe and sound at the shelter now and am patiently awaiting my forever home!

TEMPERAMENT - I am a curious, joyful boy who loves people’s attention (video). My rescuers say I'm friendly with everyone at first sight, even with strangers (video). I'm well socialized and get along with all the dogs at the shelter. I can play, but I'm also content on my own. I'm used to sleeping in my crate at night, nice and cozy. I live with dogs of all sizes and eat alongside them with no resource guarding. Overall, I'm a brave boy, but the only thing that scares me is walking on metal surfaces, like the ones used to cover floors during construction work - so hopefully my adopter can help me overcome that fear with time. I am so deserving of lots of love and hope to find my forever home soon!

ENERGY LEVEL - Medium/Low - I enjoy a good walk but then am happy to snooze and cuddle!

GETS ALONG WITH:

  • Kids – Unknown. I don’t have any known experience around kiddos just yet.

  • Dogs – You betcha! I get along well with dogs of all sizes! Here's a video of me meeting some doggos on leash.

  • Cats –Pretty sure! We don't have a video of me with kitties yet, but my rescuer says I'm cat-friendly. We can request a video of an interaction if my adopter has a cat in their home.

PREY DRIVE - Unknown. I’m not too sure how I’ll react around squirrels/rabbits etc., so my adopter needs to be prepared and willing to train me through these behaviours, should they arise.

TRAINING:

  • Leash skills – I do pretty well walking on a leash (video), but will need an adopter who is happy to work with me on my leash manners so I can polish up my skills! A well-fitted harness and some dedicated leash training will help set me up for success! I don't appear bothered by noise, cars, or motorbikes (video), however I have a fear of walking on metal surfaces.

  • House trained – Work in progress. Frequent potty breaks and positive reinforcement will help me learn housetraining in my new home :)

HEALTH NOTES:

  • I am neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped. I will come to Canada with proof of all my vaccines and test records.

  • I will be tested for Heartworm etc. before flying North.

  • NOTE: It is not uncommon for rescue dogs to require dental work/cleaning after they are adopted. West Coast Paws does not cover the costs of dental work and/or vet visits. These costs are the financial responsibility of the adopter.

ADOPTION FEE:

  • My adoption fee is $840.00 CAD including tax (5% GST, 7% PST), which includes my airfare, if a flight volunteer is found directly to Vancouver.
