My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hello there! My name is Sky and here is a little info about me:

Breed: Husky
Age: 6 years old
Gender: Male
Weight: 25 kg
Height: 68 cm
Country of origin: Middle East
Highlight(s): I’m a gentle soul—sweet, a little shy at first, but more resilient than you’d ever imagine.

A little about me:

They named me Sky because I survived long enough to see brighter days. I’m a soft-hearted husky boy who just wants a quiet, safe home and a human to finally call my own.

I was found wandering the streets with a severe skin condition, thin and uncomfortable, searching for a safe place to rest. My rescuers believe I once had a family, because I clearly knew what it meant to be around people… and then one day, they simply weren’t there anymore. No collar, no help, just me and the road. By the time help finally arrived, my skin was in rough shape and I was doing my best just to get through each day. Thankfully, kind humans stepped in just in time. They treated my skin, gave me proper food, medicine, and a soft place to sleep. Slowly, my fur grew back, my body healed, and I started to believe that maybe life could feel kind again.

Today, I am fully recovered physically. I’m still a bit cautious in my heart, but I’m ready to take the next big step: finding a forever home where I will never be abandoned again.

I am a very gentle, sensitive and shy boy. I want to be close, but I take my time to trust. With patient, calm people, I slowly open up and show my sweet, loyal side. I’m not the kind of dog who will rush into a room and demand attention — I’m more of the quiet companion who lies nearby, watching, listening, and slowly inching closer when I feel safe.

I am shy around humans and dogs, and in the past, other dogs have picked on me, which has made me more cautious in social situations. I’m not aggressive; instead, I tend to withdraw and avoid conflict. With slow, positive introductions and respectful space, I can coexist, but I will always appreciate humans who advocate for me and keep me out of chaotic or pushy dog environments. Once I trust you, I am devoted. I become that soft presence by your side — the dog who looks at you with gentle eyes as if he can’t quite believe his luck.

My best home will be calm, stable, and patient. I would thrive with a person or family who understands sensitive dogs and is willing to let me warm up at my own pace. A respectful, dog-savvy older child or teen might be okay, but very young, unpredictable children may be overwhelming for me.A fenced yard would be wonderful so I can explore and sniff without pressure, but it’s not mandatory if you’re committed to regular, gentle walks and safety. What matters most is that I’m treated with kindness, patience, and consistency.

Energy Level: Moderate – I’m a husky, so I do appreciate walks, mental stimulation, and some adventure, but at 6 years old I’m past the wild puppy stage.

I get along with:
Dogs: Yes
Cats: Unknown
Kids: Unknown – likely best with calm, dog-savvy older children/teens

Fears:I can be fearful and anxious in new situations and around unfamiliar dogs or loud environments. Fast movements, rough play, or pushy dogs may worry me, especially because I’ve been attacked by other dogs before.

Training:
Leash skills: Yes, But please continue to guide me in my new home.
House trained: Yes, But please continue to guide me in my new home.

Health notes:
Previously had a severe skin condition, now fully treated and recovered. I have been neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped.

My adoption fee is $600.00 CAD plus applicable taxes. While our rescuers always seek a flight without a charge, there is the possibility of a passenger fee, not to exceed $300.

Disclaimer: It is important for all applicants to visit our website, http://www.lovedatlastdogrescue.ca/adopting/ and read about Loved at Last Dog Rescue. Information included in the profile is provided to us from the international rescuer or local fosters. LALDR does not have access to overseas dogs and cannot always verify the accuracy of their descriptions. Every dog is an individual and can act differently in different situations based on the person adopting them and the environment in which they live.

Please Note: LALDR highly encourages adopters to research some local dog trainers before their dog arrives. Although a 1-on-1 trainer is often not needed, it is good to have someone in mind in case any problematic behaviours arise. Most bad behaviours can be modified if caught early enough, so make sure to nip undesirable behaviours in the bud before they become serious problems. Basic training should be taken seriously but should not begin until your dog is well settled in - at least a couple of weeks. After you feel your new dog is relaxed and comfortable in their new home check out training courses in your local area. Even basic beginner courses like those taught at a local pet store can have a huge benefit in helping your dog learn to socialize and get used to being in public situations, all with the added benefit of strengthening their bond with you.

The age and breed of a dog is usually an educated guess, so we are not able to guarantee the accuracy of age or breed of our dogs.

Normally, we will not approve adoptions to homes with children under 12 years of age. However if the dog is shown to be good with children we will approve homes with children 8 years or older. More information can be found on our website.

While most dogs find escorting passengers flying directly to Vancouver, some will find flights through Toronto or  Montreal. In that case, additional fees will apply to fly your dog to Vancouver by cargo. Unaccompanied cargo costs within Canada range from $350 - $550 depending on the size of the dog. LALDR will be as transparent as possible with you regarding these costs. You will NOT be asked to pay a passenger fee on top of the cargo fee.

[MID EAST DOGS] *Vaccinations: Dogs from the Middle East are vaccinated for rabies, parvo, distemper, leptospirosis, adenovirus type 1 and para-influenza. Bordetella is not given, as that has not been a problem in the Middle East.
