This helps Red Fern Animal Rescue with pet care costs.
The Griswold family- Mum Ellen, sister Audrey, and brother Russell, showed up on a man’s land in Tehuacana, not a safe environment, and so only Audrey & Russ had survived of the litter. Luckily they were taken to safety at a small, rural shelter in Wortham, Texas.
Unfortunately Russ, and all the animals at the shelter, have little prospects as the shelter does little to no adoptions. There is a small group of individuals in Wortham that work tirelessly to network (and vet, on a very limited budget) these animals to foster-based rescues in and out of Texas that are willing to consider them. Red Fern was contacted by one of these volunteers who, together with her high school daughter, go to the holding facility every day to walk the dogs, socialize them, take them to the vet, and just spend quality time with them.
Russell is an adorable mixed breed- Mum is a Chow (pictured last). He's doing great! Not shy at all and has a goofy personality. He loves playing with his sister.
Russ is currently up to date on all vaccines and will be neutered soon.
Russ is currently in Wortham, TX, hoping to hop on a transport Thursday 12/11/2025 so he can hop off in Colorado on Friday 12/12/2025 if he has an adopter or foster ready to welcome him into their home, just in time for the holidays.
Red Fern Animal Rescue offers a two week foster to adopt trial in your home before finalizing the adoption to ensure the animal is the right fit for you, everyone in the home, human & animal, and vice versa.
Red Fern Animal Rescue is a 501(c)(3) non-profit foster-based animal rescue in Denver that saves animals from abandonment and neglect in South Texas for new lives in Colorado. We primarily rescue dogs off the streets and from kill shelters in San Antonio.

After your app is submitted, we will reach out to have a conversation and schedule a time for you to meet the pet
Approve Application
If you decide to move forward after the meet and greet we will officially approve your application
Take the Pet Home
After your app is approved, we will complete foster or adoption paperwork and you will take the pet home
