Fudge is a very unusual special needs cat because he was born with a congenital defect that took 4 surgeries to correct. He was born with a cleft soft palate, which is a hole in the membrane that keeps food and water from entering his nose and lungs when he eats. He is very unusual because most kittens born with this defect, die in infancy due to food/water entering their lungs and causing pneumonia. Fudge beat the odds and entered the rescue at about 1 year old. Over the next 5 months, he wasn't allowed to eat or drink anything by mouth, so he had a feeding tube inplanted and was fed by syringe every 6 hours around the clock. Throughout it all, he remained loving and sweet. Now he eats canned and dry foods, plays and snuggles and is ready to be adopted.
