My personality

My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

This handsome gentleman is named Bear. He’s an 8-year-old neutered German Shepherd looking for a permanent home to share his love and lay his head at night. We were told that Bear and his brother originally belonged to a woman who passed away, but since then, they have been shuffled around several times. Bear has a sweet temperament and loves being with people—he leans in and loves head scratches, treats, and a soft bed to sleep on. He’s house-trained, knows commands, is quickly obedient, and walks extremely well on leash. He enjoys a gentle game of fetch and makes his own game of chasing birds, which is funny to watch! He may have been through some scary events with people because he’ll duck if someone raises a hand quickly, but despite what’s happened, he’s a trusting boy. He was pretty skinny, but has been filling out, and his fur has become smooth and shiny. Bear absolutely loves walks, which will help him stay limber, but he has a bit of arthritis, so his walks shouldn’t be more than 15 to 20 minutes; definitely no long hikes.
Bear would be an ideal companion for a family with older children or senior adults since he’s so gentle. He does well with small female dogs, but we don’t know about small children or cats. We don’t know how he gets along with other male dogs, so a meet-and-greet with any potential dog housemates is a must.
Is your heart melting yet? Please consider opening your heart and home to this wonderful boy!

More about this rescue

People’s Anti Cruelty Association / Albuquerque Animal Rescue (PACA), a No-Kill rescue group, was founded in 1973. Our main mission is to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehouse homeless dogs and cats. PACA has no shelter facility and relies on an organized network of foster parents who graciously take animals into their homes and hearts until permanent homes are found.
