Meet Mimosa

Mimosa is a 5 month old Maltipoo puppy weighing about 13 lbs with a soft, nonshedding coat. She was surrendered to our rescue along with her brother, Bellini, after being part of an accidental litter. Their former owners wanted the best for them and asked that they be spayed/neutered, brought up to date on vaccinations, and placed in loving forever homes. Mimosa is now healthy, growing, and ready to find a family of her own.

Daily Routine

Mimosa starts her day around 7:30 a.m. with a potty break, followed by breakfast at about 8:00 a.m. She heads back outside again roughly 30 minutes later. During the workday, she happily entertains herself with toys, naps nearby, and enjoys short potty breaks, including one around noon. Training sessions are built into her day, and she does especially well because she loves her kibble and is very food-motivated.

Afternoons are her most energetic time, filled with playful bursts and short naps in between. Around 5:00 p.m., she enjoys a longer walk in the park. Afterward, she’s content to relax on the couch, often “watching TV” with her people. Dinner is served around 6:30–7:00 p.m., with quick potty breaks before and after. On quieter evenings, she may go out one last time before settling into her pen for the night, where she calmly relaxes by about 10:00 p.m.

Personality & Adjustment

When Mimosa first arrived in her foster home, she was scared and timid. She would freeze in place, stay silent, and tuck her tail when overwhelmed. It took her about 2–3 days to begin feeling comfortable, and even now she can be startled by sudden loud noises or unfamiliar people. With patience and gentle encouragement, she has blossomed into a playful, affectionate puppy.

Once she trusts you, Mimosa is incredibly loving. She seeks out cuddles, asks for belly rubs, brings her toys over to initiate play, and gives lots of sweet kisses. She is highly food motivated, which has made bonding and training much easier, though a slow feeder is recommended since she tends to inhale her meals. She follows her people around when they’re nearby but is also able to relax independently in her pen and sleeps through the night without barking or crying.

Social Skills

Mimosa has met other dogs and even ducks during her walks. She may initially hide behind her person when encountering new dogs or people, especially if there are loud sounds around, but her curiosity often wins out. When she feels safe, she wags her tail, carefully sniffs, and politely greets other dogs. She has done well with friendly off-leash dogs and continues to gain confidence with each outing.

Energy Level & Play Style

Mimosa is a wonderful balance of playful and relaxed. She loves jumping, playing with toys, running, and is learning how to play fetch. Between energetic play sessions, she enjoys plenty of naps and cuddle time. She’s happy to engage with her people but can also keep herself busy when needed.

Leash & Walks

She was initially very scared of the leash, but after just a couple of longer walks, she became much more comfortable. She now enjoys sniffing grass and plants and walking alongside her foster. Traffic noises and busy environments can still feel overwhelming at times, but she improves daily. She doesn’t pull on leash or chase squirrels, though she has barked at delivery drivers and once at her own reflection.

Housetraining & Home Habits

Mimosa has made excellent progress with housetraining. After one early accident on her first day, she has done very well with frequent outings. She chews on her toys appropriately and can be easily redirected if she gets curious about household items. Enrichment toys, Kongs, and food puzzles keep her happily occupied.

Ideal Home

Mimosa would thrive in a patient, understanding home that is willing to continue her training and help her build confidence. She is still a puppy and developing her personality, so a family with some dog experience would be ideal. With time and consistency, she will grow into a confident, loving companion.

Why Mimosa?

Mimosa is a shy-at-first puppy who warms up quickly and forms deep bonds with her people. Once she trusts you, she is affectionate, playful, loyal, and full of love. She offers the best of both worlds: energetic playtime and cozy cuddle sessions. With the right guidance, she will make an incredibly rewarding companion.

Foster’s Favorite Thing

Mimosa’s loyalty and affection are truly special. When she’s happy, she jumps with the biggest smile and proudly brings her favorite toys to invite you to play. She’s the perfect dog to come home to after a long day, always ready with cuddles, kisses, and unconditional love.
