Punkin: The Soft-Hearted Labrador Mix Learning to Shine Again
Punkin didn’t arrive brave. He arrived small in spirit, lighter than he should have been, and trying hard to disappear in plain sight. A tan and white Labrador retriever mix with a heart that had gone quiet. He came from a Georgia shelter after being surrendered by the only people he knew, and the world felt too loud after that.
The first days in care were slow ones. Punkin kept his body low. He tucked his heart in tight. He watched everything. But safe is a feeling that works its way in, little by little, and that’s what happened here.
The tail moved first. Just a small wag. Then another. Then a whole soft rhythm that said he was ready to try again.
His weight is coming back. His coat is filling in. His eyes look steadier. Good nutrition and regular vet checks are giving him what he never had enough of. A healthy chance. TLC is doing the rest.
Punkin is about 3 years old and weighs 43.3 pounds today. Neutered. Vaccines current. A gentle, easy boy who likes people and melts for affection. He has been around other dogs in public and handled it well. We are still learning what he prefers inside a home, but he gives every sign that he can settle with the right match.
He is soft. He is sweet. He is braver than he was yesterday. And he is becoming the dog he was always meant to be. A loyal companion with a calm way about him and a quiet hope that his next chapter finally brings him home.
