Hi, I’m Stevie Wonder! I’m a 4-year-old, 50-pound pit bull mix with a gorgeous graphite silver coat and a story that shows just how resilient and lovable a pup can be. When I was just a tiny puppy, I was thrown out of a window. My head took the brunt of the impact, and while I never regained all of my cognitive abilities, I’ve grown into a happy, goofy, and affectionate dog who lives life with tail wags and smiles.
I’m a special needs dog as I have some hearing and vision issues, and I run in circles much of the time—it’s my way of navigating the world and showing my excitement. I’m not completely deaf or blind, and I’ve learned my own unique ways to stay connected. On walks, I’ll circle back and touch your leg to reassure myself of my boundaries. In familiar areas, I can even walk without a leash because I know how to find my way back to you.
I cannot be left alone, as I panic if I’m by myself even for a few minutes. But with another passive dog by my side, I’m perfectly content. My foster buddy Houdini has become my helper—he’ll retrieve me if I wander too far, and he even lets me eat first because he knows I’m special. I thrive in a home where I’ll always have companionship, whether from people or another gentle dog.
I’m neutered, vaccinated, heartworm negative, leash trained, and pen trained. Potty training is still a work in progress, but with patience and consistency, I’ll continue to improve. I do have some food aggression, especially if cats were to get near my bowl, so I’d do best in a cat-free home. But I have no human aggression at all—I adore people and love being close to them.
My favorite thing in the world? Water! Splashing, swimming, playing—I’m all in. I’m silly, loyal, and full of personality. If you’re patient, understanding, and ready to embrace my quirks, I’ll reward you with endless love, laughter, and companionship.
I’m currently fostered in Sanford, NC, but I can be transported to the right home (transport fees may apply). If you’re 21 or older and ready to welcome a joyful, resilient companion who will keep you smiling every day, I’d love to be your Stevie Wonder.
