My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Finn von Forst is a gorgeous, smaller sized 12 month old Malinois mix heartthrob who is equal parts cuddle bug and well-mannered gentleman. This sweet boy has been absolutely crushing life in foster care and is ready to charm his way into a forever home. Finn has already checked off a lot of big “good dog” boxes: parks, neighborhood walks, dog-friendly boutiques, and daily daycare pickups. He’s met 10–15 dogs of all shapes and sizes (on leash) and has been polite, friendly, and respectful every time. Humans? Big fan. He is a total rockstar on leash—no reactivity, minimal pulling, and only mild interest in squirrels (very impressive for a young pup). He’s calm, attentive, and a joy to take out and about. This boy LOVES to learn and is highly food motivated (which is great because he needs to gain a few pounds—training snacks encouraged!). He’s easy to redirect, eager to please, and already knows that “sit” is a crowd favorite. He also learns quickly by watching other dogs and has picked up great habits from his foster lab sibling. Fully potty trained, sleeps through the night like a champ. He is a proud Velcro dog. He will escort you everywhere, supervise all activities, and generally insist on being your shadow. He is looking for a loving home that will appreciate his gentle nature, smart brain, and devotion to his people. If you’re searching for a playful, affectionate, well-mannered, smaller sized young dog who already has a fantastic foundation, Finn von Forst is ready to meet you.

Please note: Although he has the look of a Malinois (mix), he is not your typical, high energy, "must work" type of dog the breed is known for.

Rescued from the Kern County animal shelter.

IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN Finn von Forst YOU MUST FILL OUT AN ADOPTION APPLICATION ON OUR WEBSITE: www.sheprescue.org

Based on our experience, Westside's current thinking is to usually match first-time shepherd owners with a mix versus a purebred shepherd. Mixes are "softer" and somewhat more malleable. Exceptions can be made, however, for first-time adopters who show the confidence and leadership tendencies that purebreds will respect and respond to. Counselors have to use good judgment in assessing the attributes of the adopter, as well as of the dog. If you have doubts, get a second opinion from Robin or another experienced counselor.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

In order to adopt any dog from Westside German Shepherd Rescue, one must fill out an adoption application first. Upon receipt of your application, a Westside adoption counselor will contact you.We do aerial home checks and you may be asked to supply pictures as well as arranging for a home visit prior to adoption.

Adoption fees vary with each dog and typically range from $150 to $500. They are set, taking into account the dog's age, training level, temperament, if they’re newly arrived, medical condition(s) (if any) and other factors. Adoption fees are used not only to rescue and place the dog you are personally adopting, but to aid in the future rescue and rehabilitation of other deserving dogs. Adoption fees are necessary; without fees, our rescue efforts would quickly come to an end. The adoption fee includes spay/neuter, microchip, and up-to-date vaccinations.
