My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Her name is Esme, and she is truly as sweet as pie. Esme is a beautiful deep gray girl with stunning, soulful eyes that will melt your heart. She’s about 2 years old and currently weighs 12 pounds, though she’s a bit underweight and would benefit from gaining about 2–3 pounds to reach a healthy size.

Esme can be nervous at first, as the world still feels a little scary to her, but once she warms up she becomes incredibly sweet, cuddly, and loving. She adores being held, comforted, and staying close to her people. She will happily follow you around the house and just wants to be near you.

She’s a cozy girl at heart and loves curling up under the covers or snuggling in for naps. Esme also loves cuddling with other dogs and does well with dogs of all sizes. She has a gentle, quiet nature and an easygoing presence that makes her a wonderful companion.

Esme is doing well with house training and will use puppy pads if needed. She is also doing well with crate training, rides nicely in the car, and is working on her leash walking. She prefers to take things slow while she builds confidence.

Esme’s skin is currently in rough shape, but it is already improving with proper nutrition, care, and the comfort of indoor living. With continued love and care, she’s only going to keep blossoming.

Esme is even prettier in person and has the kind of sweetness that sneaks up on you. She’s ready for a patient, loving home where she can feel safe, cozy, and adored forever. Bcaaofnj.org

Submitting an application is always our first step - it's free to apply! bcaaofnj.org

Additional adoption info

Our adoption process starts with the applicant filling out an adoption application for the pet they are interested in. When they have completed and submitted the application, the screening process is started, which consists of a vet check, phone interview and home visit. Once all the steps are completed, we determine, by our findings, if they are approved, and if so, then they are allowed to adopt from our organization. The final step is they must complete the adoption contract, along with the donation for the animal, which goes into our medical fund to defray their medical costs. All of our animals are spayed and neutered, up to date on all their shots, including rabies, they are parasite free and on heartworm preventative.
