My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Hoss!

Hoss came to ACC after being found alone in an apartment with no known history. In the shelter, he's shown himself to be a sensitive, thoughtful dog who warms up with time and patience. While he can be initially hesitant, he's been observed walking calmly, exploring his surroundings, and settling once he feels secure. With familiar handlers, Hoss becomes more relaxed and engaged, especially when given space to move at his own pace.

My Ideal Home

Hoss would do best in a calm, low-stress home with adopters who understand fearful or shut-down dogs and are willing to build trust gradually. A predictable routine, quiet environment, and positive, reward-based training will help him continue to gain confidence. He'll thrive with someone who allows him choice and doesn't rush interactions.

Good with Kids?

No young children under 5. Hoss can be sensitive to handling and would be most comfortable in a home with adults or older children who can respect his boundaries and read his body language.

Good with Other Pets?

Hoss has shown mild reactivity to dogs while on leash, including staring and pulling at times. He has participated in brief dog-dog interactions but will need slow, thoughtful introductions and continued guidance. We do not have information about him living with other pets in a home setting.

Leash Manners

Hoss generally walks with a loose leash and enjoys sniffing his environment. He may pull toward other dogs and can hesitate when being leashed or transitioning out of his kennel. A patient approach, calm handling, and structured walks are helpful for him.

Overall Health

Healthy overall and stable in care.

Behavior Determination

Level 2. Hoss displays fear-based behaviors and anxiety in unfamiliar situations but is able to recover and engage with support. He's best suited for adopters with some experience who can provide reassurance, structure, and continued positive reinforcement.

Other Fun Facts

Hoss enjoys calm walks, exploring at his own pace, and benefits from quiet time to decompress. With patience and consistency, he has the potential to become a deeply loyal and steady companion.
