Maggie – 9-Month-Old Bernese Mountain Dog

Looking for a Very Special Home

Maggie’s story is nothing short of remarkable. Purchased from a pet store, she was taken to the vet to be euthanized at just 8 months old due to nipping and biting without ever having intervention from a trainer. Instead, that vet reached out to our rescue, giving this beautiful girl the second chance she deserved.

For the past five weeks, Maggie has lived with an experienced trainer for assessment and support. What we’ve learned is clear: Maggie is not aggressive. She is a young, intelligent, high-drive working/herding breed who was misunderstood and overwhelmed/frustrated. Her nipping is classic herding-dog behavior—never with intent to harm, never breaking skin, and always improving as she matures and learns.

Maggie is house trained, on a schedule. She is crate trained and sleeps through the night, but would prefer to be with her people.

What Maggie Loves

People—she truly lights up around them

Learning and working

Clear direction and consistent expectations

Running free with a job to do

She is highly motivated to please, incredibly smart, and focused. She has made significant progress learning to regulate her excitement, listen, and settle. Her trainer describes her as “a crazy girl in the best way”—full of energy, enthusiasm, and a zest for life.

What She Needs

Maggie thrives with structure, routine, and purpose. She requires an adopter with:

Experience with Bernese Mountain Dogs or similar working/herding breeds

Confidence and consistency in training

A farm or large property where she can safely be off-leash and have room to move

A calm, clear environment where she can continue the progress she’s already made

Because of her excitement level and size, we are not recommending a family with small children unless they are very experienced handlers.

She has successfully met people, dogs, cats, chickens, and even a child—showing no aggression and displaying incredible growth. Every day, she continues to impress us.

The Next Chapter

Maggie is a dog who was nearly out of time—but she’s turned that second chance into something extraordinary. Now she just needs the right home: one that understands her, challenges her, and lets her be the joyful, brilliant, bouncy girl she was always meant to be.
