My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Laika
Looking for someone who loves walks on the beach, adventure, and is gorgeous and loyal?
If yes, swipe left to meet Laika. She is just an adorable 11 week old German Shepherd mix who is a treasure to have around.
She currently weighs 15lbs but she will be a big girl at about 80 pounds when full grown.
After a rough start in life in northern Manitoba, her challenges continued when she was diagnosed with parvovirus. She's a fighter though and survived after 2 days in ICU.
Laika is happy, curious and full of energy. She enjoys playing with her foster brother and sister, her squeaky toys and taking long naps, snacks, loves ice cubes and the snow. She's a smarty pants, quick learner, good with new people and already figured out the sit and stay. She can sit and stay and will wait (for the most part) until the food is placed on the floor. She is great when it comes to sharing her toys and has shown no concerning behaviours when the other dogs are around while she’s eating.
A home with an active family or a home with another dog would be great if possible. Laika is a high energy pup who is blossoming after surviving parvo. The foster parents have 2 dogs, and they have been excellent ambassadors to Laika. The foster parents do not have cats.
She is crate trained and can be left in there for a few hours at a time. Her housetraining is a work in progress like most pups her age, but she does use pee pads reliably. For riding in the car, she needs a crate or seat belt due to her age as she tries to jump into your lap while driving.
She is fed 3x’s per day puppy food

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

Our process begins with an online pre adoption questionnaire followed by a telephone interview
Once both have been completed we consider suitability and if we feel the adoption candidate is a potential match we arrange a meet and greet with the dog you are interested in
From there we schedule a home visit and check personal and veterinary references.

Go meet their pets

All our dogs are in foster homes so meet and greets are by appointment only

Foster Homes
Sadly, each new day brings a flood of emails and telephone pleas to help yet another abandoned dear dog. We try and help these displaced dogs through our rescue efforts and networking. We are always in search of new foster homes where a dog can be cared for and loved until a permanent home is found. Speaking of Dogs Rescue covers food, medical attention and all the supplies required for the dogs in foster care. Foster parents need be responsible and patient people who will provide a safe environment for our dogs. A foster contract must be signed. This is a serious responsibility; however the experience is very rewarding. If you can open your heart and home to a foster dog please contact us. We have a comprehensive Foster Manual available for people who are considering becoming a foster parent.
