Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Dutchess is a 9-month-old female Chihuahua/Dachshund mix with gigantic, expressive ears and a stunning reddish coat that turns heads wherever she goes. This little lady is all about her people—she absolutely loves attention and affection and will happily sit beside you, offering the sweetest soft whines until you give her some love.
Dutchess is happiest when she’s near her humans. Whether she’s curling up for a nap close by or following you around to be part of whatever you’re doing, she just wants to belong. She is potty-trained, making her an easy addition to a home, and she does well with kids and cats, showing a gentle, social nature.
She does well with dogs of all sizes. Dutchess has been fostered with two 50-lb dogs and will happily play if they invite her. If not, she politely backs off and observes. She has had no negative encounters with large dogs. With small dogs, she will stand up for herself if picked on, so respectful dog interactions are best.
Dutchess loves squeaky toys, enjoys gentle play, and thrives on human companionship. At night and when her foster leaves the house, she settles nicely in her playpen with her bed. Because she bonds so deeply with her people, continued crate training and clear boundaries from day one are recommended to prevent separation anxiety as she grows.
If you’re looking for a devoted, affectionate little shadow who wants to be part of your everyday life, Dutchess may be your perfect match.

More about this shelter
We are a non-profit organization out of Monticello, IA specializing in the care for dogs and cats that need us. Our care does not stay local, as we take transports from all over the United States, and adopt all over as well!
Our mission's primary focus is to help reduce the homeless pet population by finding homes for spayed/neutered pets, and helping educate WHY this process is so important, and the proper way to care for pets!
