My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.

Reba was chosen as her name as we didn't know her given name and based on her primary red hair. Reba is a beautiful Yorkshire Terrier. She is up to date on all required vaccinations and will have her boosters on 13 January 2026.

Reba had minor anxiety when picked up by her foster family, however, once brought into the foster home, with three other dogs present, she made friends quickly. On the first night, she was placed into a closed kennel where she immediately fell asleep and slept through the night. During the first two days she already displayed the following.

  • She uses the pet door to go out and back in the back fenced yard on her own.
  • Before she learned the pet door, she was able the communicate that she needed to go outside. There was only a couple of misses in the house.
  • She has shown no aggressive behavior at the shared dog food area.
  • She has shown to be very excited when her foster humans come home after a period of absence. During initial absences, she was monitored via security camera and was not aggressive toward the other dogs, or them to her. She gets along very well with the other dogs.
  • She enjoys baths, and other grooming such as combing and brushing.
  • She shadows the male foster human but does not ignore the female human foster at all.

Reba's age is best estimated as two years old, with a given birthday of 12 December 2023.

Size: Medium Yorkie size at 14.4 lbs on 12/16/2025

Good with Dogs: Yes

Good with cats: Unknown

Good with kids: Yes

Good with men and women: Yes

Any medical issues: minor skin irritation and was given a prescription to clear that up.

Reba loves going to the large county dog park with her foster sisters, where she gets a lot of exercise and runs the perimeter two to three times, with each lap being 1/4 of a mile. She also joins her foster sisters running along the fence line with our two dogs barking at the neighbor dogs. In the house, she loves to sit on recliners or the couch with her humans. She totally loves to be brushed and combed. So much so, that she falls asleep in the process.

Reba is well behaved. She does have a lot of energy. 100% housebroken, given she uses the pet door when needed. Until she mastered the pet door, she didn't always communicate when she needed to go outside and chose the laundry room.

Reba is extremely energetic when we come home, meeting us at the door and dancing on her hind legs.

Because Reba has loved her foster sisters, she does not need to be an only dog, but at the same time, she could be an only dog as well. She has been around male dogs at the dog park and got along well with them as well, including larger dogs.

Reba has not shown to be food aggressive. In fact, our two, plus two fosters all are grazers, with the dry dog food out during the day and each eat when they want. When it is treat time, the four of them sit very straight side by side and wait for their turn to get a treat. None of them try to take the others treat.

Reba spent the first week with us in a locked kennel. Then, she went in on her own when everyone went to bed and we left the door open. She was then able to go outside if needed, then back into the kennel.

We have not tested her with commands, but she has learned her name of Reba. When going somewhere, while on her leash, she will get up into our truck on her own. She doesn't HATE riding in the truck, but she is happy to get out, just the same.

Finally, Reba only took a couple of days to adapt to her foster family. The bottom line is that Reba will easily adapt to nearly any situation she may encounter.

Additional adoption info

Our fees range from 75.00 to 450.00 depending on the age of the dog. They must submit an application and if the application sounds good then a home visit will be set up. We are very strict about what we look for on the home visit. If app and home visit are approved then we bring the dog for a meet and greet. All dogs are vaccinated, spayed/neutered and healthy before adoption. I do ask that the family update us frequently on the dog as we like to keep up with each and every pet we adopt out.

More about this rescue

We LOVE dogs! We wish that we could help more than we do and hopefully someday we will expand and be able to do much more in our community to rescue and train dogs for placement and to educate the community about the importance of spay and neutering their pets and recruit more people to lend a hand.
