My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

🌼 Meet Winny — A Gentle Heart Ready to Bloom 🌼
Winny is a 2–3-year-old, 55-pound tan mixed-breed girl (maybe a little lab, shepherd, or hound magic mixed in) who is just beginning to discover how good life can be.
She’s still relatively new to the shelter, and like many sensitive souls, Winny was a bit apprehensive at first. But every single day, she’s making progress — trusting a little more, wagging a little harder, and letting her sweet personality shine through. Watching her come out of her shell has been incredibly rewarding.
✨ What We’re Learning About Winny:
Easy to leash up in her kennel — polite and cooperative
Walks beautifully on leash and enjoys exploring her surroundings
Knows how to sit and gets very excited about treats (while taking them oh-so-gently)
Happy and tail-wagging once she’s out and about
Curious, calm, and quietly joyful
Winny doesn’t demand attention — she earns your heart with her softness and sincerity. She’s the kind of dog who will thrive with a patient, kind adopter who understands that confidence grows with consistency and love.
If you’re looking for a companion to explore the world with at her own pace, to celebrate small wins, and to build a deep bond with, Winny could be your girl. She’s ready for someone to believe in her — and she’ll repay that faith with loyalty and love.
Come meet Winny at the shelter. Sometimes the quiet ones are the ones who need us most. 💛🐾

More about this shelter

The City of Hopewell Animal Shelter is run by the Animal Control Officers. We fall under the Hopewell Police Department and train accordingly to serve the animals and the public of Hopewell. Our shelter is currently a small scale shelter with 28 dog kennels and 14 cat cages.

Our shelter is often full. We work hard to find our animals that are not claimed by an owner a new home or an approved rescue.

Most of our animals at our facility are animals that were found running loose that no one came to look for. We do often get animals in from owner surrenders where the previous owners can no longer care for them. At times we also seize animals and they will eventually need forever homes or rescue.

Come on down to the City of Hopewell and meet the wonderful Animal Control Officers and the Shelter staff that care for the animals on a daily basis.
