My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

** If you are interested in adopting Yuki please fill out our adoption application at http://farfels.com/farfels-rescue/adoption-form/ **

Meet Yuki! Yuki is a 3-year-old, 57 lb Weimaraner / Labrador Retriever mix who recently made his way to Colorado after being found as a stray in Houston. This sweet boy has already shown what a loving and gentle soul he is. He is SUCH a good boy!

From Yuki's foster:

"Yuki (or Yuki Pookie as my kids call him) is the sweetest boy and best snuggler you will ever meet. He is a really extremely GOOD dog!! He is so gentle and sweet with our kids, (10 & 11) and he is BEST friends with our dog. He is fully potty trained also. I mean he is the full package!!!

He is so smart and knows "sit" and "lay down" and "shake". He is so smart and easy to train!

He will cuddle with you on the couch or bed or anywhere and make satisfied sighing noises when he snuggles in that will melt your heart. Yuki is an equal opportunity cuddler and will love snuggles and pets from all household members and more. He even slept under the covers with our kiddo the other night, with his head on the pillow!

Yuki loves to romp with other dogs and is playful and funny. He would do great in a forever home with another playful dog. He is a little too interested in our cats, so shouldn't go to a home with cats. But he LOVES other dogs and playing and snuggling with them.

On potty training: Yuki hasn’t had a single accident! He will let you know he needs to go out with a boop or paw. He is SO good.

While Yuki LOVES other dogs, he is still learning to not bark at doggie friends out on walks, (he just gets over excited and being held back by the leash makes him bark) but is making quick progress given his big love of treats. He just gets excited to see friends and wants to go say hi. But he is very food motivated and very smart and learning fast to look at me for a treat instead."

Yuki arrived to Farfel’s Rescue from Houston in early October after a tough start on the hot Texas streets, where he was underweight and had thinning hair. With lots of love and care in his foster home, he’s completely blossomed — his coat is now soft and shiny, and he’s at a healthy, happy weight!

We'd like to place Yuki in a home where he'll get consistent stimulation, exercise and love. A (virtual or in-person) positive reinforcement group training class promotes great behavior, bonding and confidence. Training is so important in the future behaviors of every dog. It's for this reason that we're unwilling to adopt to a family that doesn't make this loving choice. Farfel's is happy to provide a list of both in-person and virtual positive reinforcement / force- free trainers in your area.

Yuki is up to date on his vaccinations, has been fully vetted, and is neutered.
Like many dogs coming from the South, Yuki did test low positive for heartworm, something we see all the time in rescue dogs from that region. The good news is that he’s responded beautifully to treatment and is already almost finished with his heartworm protocol. He’ll just need 1–2 more routine appointments to be officially heartworm-free. If those aren’t completed before adoption, Farfel’s will cover the full cost of his remaining treatment.

Farfel's Rescue is a fully foster based rescue, and offers a one week trial with every adoption. We feel that this is much more beneficial to not only the dog, but the adopter too. We believe that only getting 20-30 minutes with a dog before deciding on a lifetime commitment is not a fair amount of time to the adopter, or the dog. Therefore we give adopters one week with the dog to assure it is the right fit, and offer a full refund of their adoption fee should it not workout within the week trial.

Farfel's Rescue has been doing adoptions this way since 2005 and is thrilled to adopt out ~400 dogs each year.

Applications are currently being accepted for our wonderful pup. If interested in this gorgeous, very cuddly/sweet and loving best friend, please fill out an application completely at http://farfels.com/farfels-rescue/adoption-form/ and submit.

**PLEASE NOTE** If you're truly interested in adopting from us, please be sure to fill out our Farfel's Rescue adoption application found at the link above or at farfels.com. Adoption site applications such as Petfinder and Adoptapet don't provide enough information and therefore aren't useful. Our Farfel's application is the only initial tool that we have to determine a great match for this very deserving dog. We're sorry, but in many cases, we're unable to get back to those that don't submit our Farfel's Rescue adoption application. Thanks very much for choosing rescue.

Additional adoption info

Farfel's Rescue is a fully foster based rescue, and offers a one week trial with every adoption. We feel that this is much more beneficial to not only the dog, but the adopter too. We believe that only getting 20-30 minutes with a dog before deciding on a lifetime commitment is not a fair amount of time to the adopter, or the dog. An Adoption Application and an Adoption Contract must be completed before any dog can begin their one week foster. Our average adoption fee is $695. This amount serves to cover vetting, spay/neuter, all vaccinations, temperament testing, transport, a microchip, harness, food, and treats.
Our dogs come from Texas, Kansas, New Mexico, Oklahoma and rural Colorado.

Go meet their pets

Pets are transported from the southern states every week. Almost 100% of the time, the dogs are spoken for as a result of adoption applications that can be referenced under Adoption at farfelsrescue.com. We study the applications. If the app indicates there is a match, followed up by a home visit and reference checks, the process moves to the next step. The adopter is committing to a one week foster (of course the dog can be returned at any time prior), and can then choose to finalize the adoption.

More about this rescue

We own a pet boutique named Farfel's Farm & Rescue on Pearl Street in Boulder, Colorado. We have had the good fortune to find our niche in the Boulder community and experience success. We felt it very important to "pay it forward" in gratitude. We couldn't think of a better endeavor than to save dogs who were out of time in the southern states, yet had been identified with great temperaments. We dedicate our efforts to their good health and ultimate wonderful, permanent homes.
