My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Adoption Fee: $475

When available, all animals are fixed
in accordance with Colorado law, up to date on vaccines (may need boosters), and microchipped!

What we know: Transferred from Second Chance Dog Rescue in Snyder, TX, Mama Merry and her 9 puppies, 3 male / 5 female. Mom and pups surrendered to the shelter and have been there ever since.

*I should be ready for adoption on 12/27*

From the foster: This gorgeous pupper is Lainie (899) and she is one of a kind! She's rocking a "leopard-chic" coat and a cowlick so epic it looks like she fell asleep in a wind tunnel and decided to keep it and make it her signature style.

Sweet, playful, and a little bit quirky, Lainie is part leopard, part landshark, and is in relentless pursuit of, well, everything! Lainie may be a youngster, but she already knows what she likes - and that would be chasing! Tennis balls have been a big hit with her, she loves the squeaky ones best and chases them until she tires herself out. But her littermates, young kids, ankles, leaves, or the just the wind, ALL are fair game to race after as well. Running is one of her favorite things, along with chew toys. LOTS of chew toys. Lainie is on the very cusp of entering her "toddler with a chainsaw" phase and will often clamp down on your finger or whatever she can reach, so she will need lots of redirection to sturdy and tasty chews in her adoptive home to keep her satiated and focused on appropriate items to chew. Lainie is an intelligent lass who enjoys puzzle toys and licky mats to keep her occupied and burn off excess energy when she can't be running full speed.

If you haven't' already caught our drift, Lainie is a busy little bee, who likely will remain fairly high energy into maturity. While mama came with to the care of the rescue, we still don't have any real solid guesses on her DNA make up (maybe pitbull/Catahoula/hound of some sort???), but if you're looking for a sporty one, she sure could be it! She's fast, smart, and athletic and would love to be your workout buddy when she grows up, but until then, she'll zoom around in the yard and then find a cozy spot to konk out till the next round. Lainie is not particularly fond of being held or holding still, but she does love scratches and will often come up and give kisses in between her laps around the yard. Again, if you hadn't noticed, a fenced secure outdoor space will be key in providing Lainie an outlet for her energy. And as with all pups, obedience training, schedules, and positive socialization will be essential in helping her become her best adult self.

Lainie being fostered with three of her littermates, three large resident dogs, and two young kiddos (ages 4 & 7). She's a bit too jumpy and nibbly for our youngest kiddo but our 7 year old is able to redirect her fairly well when she's being too wild. She sleeps in a crate with her littermates overnight, with access to a puppy pen and pee pads/newspapers. They do well keeping the crate clean and using the pads and paper to eliminate, but are still too young to fully grasp the concept of housetraining, though they do their business plenty while we are outside playing and seem to be off to a good start. If you're looking for a dog to sit quietly by the fire while you knit, probably keep scrolling. If you're looking for a hilarious, high octane pup who will keep you laughing (and running), Lainie is your girl!

More about this rescue

Colorado Puppy Rescue is a 501(c)3 no-kill rescue for young puppies. We accept puppies from kill-shelters in southern CO, NM,TX, OK and KS. Most of our puppies are mixed mutts under 12 weeks old, some are as old as 6 months. We do not have a shelter. All of our puppies stay in foster homes so the only time they are available for adoption is at our adoption events. We average 20 puppies a week and update our website with available puppies Friday afternoons.
