Meet Buttercup (ACCT-A-239158), a beautiful silver and white girl with a heart of gold! Buttercup is a playful and affectionate girl who's looking for a loving forever home.
Buttercup is a smart cookie who knows commands like "sit," "paw," and "down." She's also a big fan of playtime, especially when toys are involved – she loves chasing and fetching! And when playtime is over, she's always up for some snuggles and cuddles. Her previous owner shared that she is great at offering comfort when you are feeling down.
While at the shelter, Buttercup has shown some initial hesitation and can be a bit vocal when meeting new people and dogs. She may display some reactivity in her kennel, so slow and gentle introductions are key. Once she gets to know you, though, she quickly warms up and becomes a wiggly, affectionate companion. With consistent training and positive reinforcement, Buttercup is sure to blossom into a wonderful family member.
It's important to note that Buttercup has some behavioral history that potential adopters should be aware of and prepared to manage. The shelter staff will provide you with all the details and recommendations for working with a certified veterinary behaviorist or professional trainer to ensure a successful transition into your home. She was surrendered due to the owner's lack of time and some behavioral challenges. Her previous owner also indicated that Buttercup was surrendered in the past for aggression towards children.
If you're looking for a loyal and loving companion and are committed to providing her with the training and support she needs, Buttercup might just be the perfect match for you! Could you be the one to give this sweet girl the forever home she deserves? Meet her any day at ACCT Philly from 10am-6pm

Additional Notes:
Per Volunteer 12/23/2025:
When I approached her kennel, she was staring up at me with soft eyes and a little bit of a tense body. I gave her a few pieces of pepperoni through the kennel bars, then opened the door and she greeted me with a wiggly body and tail legs. She pulls on leash to get out of the shelter and outside pulled moderately. She said hi to another dog through the fence who was jumping up and barking and doing some muzzle punches through the fence and she didn’t react at all, however remained a little stiff. Outside she showed me sit and takes treats incredibly gently! After a minute, she got really affectionate with me, jumping up and soliciting pets. Such a sweet and wiggly girl who took pets all over and loved getting attention from me. She is very interested in toys and likes to chase them and fetch them back. Allowed me to pick them up from under her too. Went to the volunteer office, There was a Dunkin’ Donuts box on the table and before I could stop her from my chair, she jumped up and grabbed a glazed donut out of the box. She also tried to dig through the trash, so she definitely seeks out food. Easily went back into kennel

Kennel Presentation: Buttercup was sitting on her bed with wide eyes and a low guttural growl. i tossed some treat towards the front to get her to come forward. she came up and would look at me with wide eyes growling at me whenever she didnt have any food in front of her. i tossed the leash through the side and secured her. she continued to low growl at me and kept herself with a forward posture toward me. i used the kennel door as a barrier, being behind it until she came out.
Leash Skills: pulls moderate to strong - housebroken
Sociability: In the room Buttercup walked around sniffing. i tossed multiple treats for on the floor which she ate. She had a low tail and wide eyes, along with pacing around the room and near the door. i took her outside to see if. she had to potty. once she went to the bathroom she was significantly looser. she was darting around outside, engaging in play and trying to meet dogs. Back in the room she was loose and wiggly. she took treats gently and knew sit, paw and down. whenever the other handler tried getting close to her she looked at them with wide eyes and did a growl. I gave her some more treats and did some tricks trying to get her near the other handler. she sniffed the handlers leg and did a shake off, coming back to me. She allowed all handling from me and was super loose and wiggly. she loves body rubs and scratches.
Play: engaged in play, loves to run
Dog Interaction: N/AReturn to Kennel: walked right back into kennel when i tossed treats, got nervous when in G row, tail tucked and wide eyes
Color Level: exp blue Recommendations and considerations:
