My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Curly!

Curly came to ACC when the person caring for her could no longer keep her. She initially greeted staff with a wiggly body and was comfortable being handled, but once she realized she was in a new environment she became more worried-pancaking, retreating, and moving through the world with pinned ears and a low tail. In calmer moments, Curly will check in, explore the room, and accept gentle affection on her own terms. She's a sweet, sensitive dog who needs time and a patient person to help her feel safe.

My Ideal Home

A quiet, predictable home with an experienced, low-pressure adopter who understands decompression and will let Curly set the pace. She'll do best with slow introductions, cozy routines, and reward-based training that builds confidence without forcing interaction. A calm neighborhood and a steady daily schedule will help her relax and come out of her shell.

Good with Kids?

No-Curly is recommended for a home without children under 13 due to her fearful behavior and sensitivity in new situations.

Good with Other Pets?

Curly has shown no reactivity to people and has not shown reactivity to dogs on leash. She may do well with another calm, social dog after a careful meet-and-greet and slow introductions.

Leash Manners

Curly has a mild pull and enjoys stopping to sniff, but she can be hypervigilant when handlers bend down or when transitioning through doorways. She may balk and need gentle encouragement to move forward. A confident handler, high-value treats, and going at her pace make a big difference.

Overall Health

Healthy overall and spayed. She is carrying some extra weight and will benefit from a balanced routine of daily walks and enrichment as she settles into a home.

Behavior Determination

Level 3 - Curly is fearful in the shelter environment and needs a calm home, slow introductions, and a patient adopter who will prioritize choice-based handling and confidence-building.

Other Fun Facts

Curly likes to check in with her person, and when she feels safe she'll inch closer for affection-sometimes even placing her front paws on your lap for reassurance. Give her time, and you'll get to see her softer, sweeter side blossom.
