My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Kiara A Gentle Soul Learning Her Way Kiara is a shy and sweet German Shepherd/Lab puppy who is just beginning to learn that the world can be a kind and safe place. Like her namesake from The Lion King, she is thoughtful and observant, taking her time as she builds confidence and learns who she can trust. Kiara is still discovering how to be a puppy. She is learning that toys can be fun, that gentle voices bring comfort, and that patience leads to security. With time and reassurance, her soft personality begins to shine through in quiet moments of curiosity and growing affection. She will do best in a calm, patient home that understands shy puppies need space and encouragement to blossom. With consistency, love, and gentle guidance, Kiara will grow into a loyal and deeply devoted companion. If you are looking for a special dog whose trust is earned and whose bond will be meaningful, Kiara is ready to find her forever family and take her place in a loving pride. Adoption fees are $250 unless otherwise stated. Senior dog adoption fees are $200. 100% of adoption fees are put back into the rescue so that another lonely and neglected dog can be rescued. We are grateful for your interest. Upon approval, the adoption fee is non-refundable. The fee includes the following: de-worming; heartworm, lymes, ehrlichia and anaplasmosis testing; all vaccinations including rabies; flea and tick treatment, microchipping and spay/neuter. Please contact us if you have questions about our adoptable dogs, we would love to talk to you!

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

We require an adoption application; we check all references; and upon adoption, we require the adopter to sign an adoption contract which says, among other things, that if the adoption doesn't work out, the dog must come back to Little Big Dog Rescue.

More about this rescue

Little Big Dog Rescue is the little rescue with the big heart.
We are a 501c3 non-profit rescue that is committed to improve and save the lives of dogs through:

Rescue, Rehabilitation, Training, Adoption and Community Education

In January 2025, the rescue underwent a transition, redefining its mission to a different focus and locality. Little Big Dog Rescue relocated to the New River Valley in Christiansburg, Virginia and expanded from predominately a senior dog rescue to helping dogs of all ages in need as our resources allow.

LBDR aims to pull from local kill shelters and assist owner surrenders as space allows in our foster homes. Each dog will be vetted to include spay/neuter, vaccinations, microchipping, deworming, etc. and then spend quality time in a foster home so we may learn more about each dog's personality and needs for their future "furever" home success. We are committed to providing medical rehabilitation as well as some behavioral training whenever possible to further improve the quality of life each dog may have after being adopted. Additionally, LBDR hopes to give back to the community by offering education on various aspects of the privilege of dog ownership, including proper medical care, training needs, breed-specific needs, and so much more.
