My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi, I’m Mother Teresa 🖤🤍

I’m a soft-spoken black-and-white girl who may be a little shy when we first meet. New places and new faces can make me a bit skittish, but please don’t mistake that for disinterest. With patience, quiet moments, and gentle voices, I start to blossom.

Once I feel safe, I truly enjoy attention. I love calm affection, slow pets, and sitting near my people, soaking up the comfort of being cared for. I’m the kind of cat who forms deep, meaningful bonds and gives her love quietly but sincerely.

I would do best in a calm home with someone who understands that good things are worth waiting for. If you’re willing to give me time and kindness, I’ll reward you with trust, affection, and a very special connection. 🖤🤍An adoption application can be filled out on the DHS website https://www.dekalbhumanesociety.org/adopt. Dog adoption fees are $200.00 for all puppies and adult dogs. Seniors are a donation of choice.
Cats and kittens are a donation of choice.

More about this shelter

At DeKalb Humane Society, we are passionate about finding forever homes for the pets in our care. Whether they are cats, dogs, or other furry friends, our mission is to provide them with a loving and nurturing environment.

We also believe in the importance of education about responsible pet ownership. We strive to educate our community about pet welfare, the benefits of spaying/neutering, and the prevention of animal abuse and neglect.

By adopting a pet from us, you are not only gaining a lifetime companion, but you are also contributing to our cause and helping us raise awareness. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of these innocent animals.

The DeKalb Humane Society filed for our Certificate of Incorporation on December 23, 1975 and we were granted 501(c)3 status in March of 1976. We are committed to being a no-kill shelter and serving the DeKalb County area.
