My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Adelina!

A soulful two-and-a-half-year-old Labrador Retriever and German Shepherd mix currently in Walnut Creek, CA, whose deep brown eyes hint at the loyal heart waiting to bloom with the right family.

Wrapped in a sleek black coat and weighing around 60 pounds, Adelina is a gentle, sensitive spirit who forms deep connections with her people once she’s had time to feel safe. While she can come across as aloof at first, with patience and steady companionship, she’ll melt into your world like she was always meant to be there. Her signature move? A sweet belly-up sprawl once she begins to trust, inviting love and belly rubs as if to say, “You’re mine now!”

Adelina shines brightest when she’s with her human, and she thrives on structure, calm, and consistent companionship. She does experience separation anxiety, so she'd flourish in a home where someone is around most of the day or where her new caregivers can gently work with her through gradual desensitization. She’s not the best fit for a busy household with multiple pets, her reactivity to other dogs appears rooted in fear and limited early socialization, but she responds beautifully to gentle structure and positive reinforcement.

This loyal girl is house-trained, spayed, microchipped, up-to-date on vaccinations, and already knows “sit.” She may not have had formal obedience training, but her eagerness to connect means she’s ready to learn and grow with a caring and experienced guide by her side. A quiet home with no other pets and a calm, patient environment would give Adelina the space and support she needs to blossom.

Adelina’s heart is as big as her potential! She isn’t looking for perfection, just a human or family willing to show her what safety and love look like, every single day. In return, she’ll be your shadow, your soft nudge, your steadfast companion.

Are you the patient, loving heart Adelina has been waiting for? Reach out to adopt@joyfulpets.com and start the journey of a lifetime with this remarkable girl!

Additional adoption info

Our ultimate goal is to unite as many animals with loving pet parents as possible, so we strive to make it easy to adopt a dog or cat you have fallen in love with. All we ask is that you fill out an adoption application so that we have all the information we need to determine that you'll be able to provide a safe and compassionate home to one of our rescued pets. Once approved, all you need to do is sign our adoption agreement form and provide an adoption donation so that we can continue to save more animals every day and unite them with families just like yours.
