Mr. Narwhal is a 2-year-old Labradoodle mix with a soft soul and an even softer heart. He’s been through more than any dog ever should. He came to rescue with a string tied tightly around his neck that caused a severe wound. While his neck has healed beautifully, his heart is still learning that the world can be a safe and kind place.
Because of his past, Mr. Narwhal can become vocal when he’s scared or overwhelmed, especially in unfamiliar situations or when he’s separated from his person. For this reason, he needs a home without shared walls. What he truly needs most is a calm, patient environment and someone who understands that healing takes time.
Mr. Narwhal is house trained and crate trained, though he does struggle with being alone and may cry whether crated or not. When he was in foster care, he happily slept in bed with his people and proved himself to be a world-class cuddler. Staying close to his person helps him feel safe, and once he feels secure, his happy, bouncy, and playful personality starts to sparkle.
He enjoys playing with toys, hanging out around the house, and relaxing on the couch next to you. He’s great with other dogs of all sizes and finds real comfort in canine companionship. In fact, another dog in the home would be a wonderful confidence booster for him. He’s also good with cats.
Mr. Narwhal has done well with children, though very young or high-energy kids can be a bit much for him and may cause him to bark when he feels overwhelmed. He would thrive best in a home with older, calmer children or adults who can read his cues and give him space when needed.
Shy at first but loyal and deeply affectionate once comfortable, Mr. Narwhal is the kind of dog who bonds hard and loves deeply. He will follow you from room to room, sit in your lap, and remind you daily how powerful love and patience can be. With understanding, reassurance, and time, Mr. Narwhal will make an incredibly devoted and loving companion. He’s still learning that he’s safe now, and he’s so very worth the wait.
His minimum adoption fee is $200 plus a $15 fee, if 4 months or older, for rabies registration for McLean County residents.
He has been neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, heartworm checked, dewormed, and is on flea and heartworm preventatives.
